Exhaust Tips

fasttoys has the stock z28 exhaust tips in polished stainless steel with an inlet size of 2.5. Will these fit the exhaust of a V6 having the y87 performance package

Just to help you out, those tips are offset to center them on the off center z-28 muffler, Now you can turn them inward or outward and they will be centered, just look at the picture on fast toys website. but just to let you know there is a guy on ebay selling new polished z-28 style tips for like $70 shipped that are centered but i'm sure they are not stainless steel like the ones your seeing there. I'm getting a set of used z-28 tips and i'm going to paint them, you can get used tips for around $35.

The outlets on a Y87 are only 2.25 not 2.5

yeah, that's true too, but $3 worth of adapters from the parts store will fix that. What's really nice about the stock z-28 tips is that they have factory clamps on them.

One other questions. The 2001 V6 that the tips will be going on has the optional ground effects package. Will I need to modify the exhaust pipes so that the new tips will clear the ground effects?

Why piece it together?

No camaro or firebord tips will fit on Y87 tips and the V8 tips are offset.

well that's very strange........my 2.5" cutout welded right on to the piping. I guess I didn't think about the outlets instead of the entire exhaust piping...Sorry, my bad. I failed to remember that I had 3" welded onto the muffler..................oops.

I have those tips on my Z/28. I also have a 3800/Y87. The stock tailpipes are down turns. How are you going to attach the new tips? If you cut off the downturns (which you will have to) then (due to the direction that the tailpipes are aimed) they will not clear the back of the car. Only the downturns redirect the tailpipes back down to clear the bumber. I think you're gonna need new tailpipes dude.

Also, these tips are heavy and off-centered, they're going to want to fall to the outside (unlike round tips or centered square tips which are balanced. Although the did fit fairly snug, they were a pain to get perfectly aligned and then keep them there. I did figure out a way to attach them to my 2.5s without welding and without clamps (clamps=very ugly).
