CPS Problem???

Hey everyone new to the site and i need help with a problem that just recently came up. the car is a 94 5 speed with the sad 3.4l v6 anyway besides the engine size itself being the problem the car acts like it is "bucking" between 1800 to 2200 rpm and this happens no matter what gear its in. the weird part is that it only wants to buck when i give it a little gas and hold it there.
i have read the other forums but i want to know if the cps would be the only culprit in the matter. also would a bad cps cause a really bad gas smell but not cause black smoke out of the tailpipe?

Re: CPS Problem???

you could debate for weeks on a message board what is wrong with a car, it just sounds like Missfiring to me, if it's due I would change plugs & then wires if needed, beyond that I would just let a mechanic handle it.
