coolant leak

the car is a heavy modded 3.8 v6 manual.

long story short....i dropped my tranny to do the pilot bushing, and while i was under there i ended up doing alot of work since i never drive the car. went all the way down to the rear main seal. removed the drive plate to get the rear main replaced. put a new gasket on the plate. put everything back together. got the tranny up and the b@tch started to drip coolant.

took it apart. replaced the drive plate gakset again. put the flywheel and clutch back up. dripped again

i took it apart AGAIN. looks like the coolant was dripping in the corners where the oil pans meets the plate.

so i decided since i'm right there...to drop the oil pan, to change that gasket.

i'm going to put it back together today. any ideas why she keeps leaking?

Aaaaaaaa.........Coolent is water and antifreeze, the gaskets your changing are for the oil system. Probably leaking, coolent not oil, from the back of the intake manifold.

it is coolant. that is what i said. i know that it's NOT oil. i know where its coming from. but it's not making a good enough seal. that is what i'm baffled about

Cool

Same thing happened to me! I have a 97 i took the tranny to do the clutch thought what the heck might as well do the rear main. Well when i got it back together it leaked COOLANT yes I said coolant on the back of the motor around the top are two ports. On mine it had a very small piece of old gasket still on the block cleaned it put it back together and it was gone. But i did put a small bead of black RTV might help in your case just in case of any small imperfections in the motor. But guaranteed it will also work for you hopefully this helps.
