code
Ive got this code when i scaned my car. 82 IGNITION CONTROL 3X SIGNAL CIRCUIT ERROR.. could someone please tell me what this means.. Haynes manual says-- NO 3X REFERENCE PULSES DETECTED BY THE ECM/PCM.. But that doesent help me much. if anyone could explain this, it would really help..
THANKS.
THANKS.
Re: code
would help slightly if we knew what kind of engie you have the 3.8, 3.4, 3.1 liter v6. My guess is you have the 3.8 becuase the 3.4 only has a 2x and 12x reference single for the computer and I'm not too put to date on the earlyier 3.1l V6 f-bodies, but those were only on the 3rd gens. But those singles come from the cam and/or crank shaft position sensors. On the 3.8 they are behind the harmonic blancer. I'v seen a lot of time where the crank pully was rubbing against the wiering harness and cause a code to be set because the computer isn't getting the proper signal to know where the crak and cam are during engine operation and wouldn't start. That would be my first guess as to where to look and start testing things.
Re: code
excuse me I was wrong the 3.4 has a 3x and 24x reference signal for the ingition system. The 3x is for the camshaft it tells the computer where the camshaft is at during engine operation for fuel injector timing and spark timing. its on the right side of the engine block at the middle of the engine near the crankshaft reluctor ring. Take a look around there to see if you can find that sensor and see if the wiering harness if damaged in any way or if the sensor itsself looks messed up. If it all looks good you might want to take it out of the engine itsself to see if it looks ok. If not replace it and see if that fixes it.

its doing that because the computer doesn't know where the engine is at precisly so your car is running on multiport fuel injection instead of sequitial port fuel injection. Your porbably getting horrible gas milage at the moment and hard starting conditions.

Re: code
right/passanger side of the engine on the block about mid way between the front and rear of the engine. I personaly have never messed with it before but you should look around and I'm sure you will find it. Its probably under the exhaust maninfold so you might have to look from under the car to find it.
Re: code
if your still having trouble fidning it if you can get under the car on the right side find the start and slowly work you way up towards to front of the engine and it will be the first sensor closes to the start bolted to the side of the engine block.
Re: code
I found them both and man thats a hell of a sensor to get to.. it sits above the stater and the noid, with the header pipe right there also.. its no room to work at all. And because the "experts" at the auto parts store gave me the wrong one to start with, and a few runs later back and forth. I ended up pulling the other one also (camshaft sensor). So since i pulled them both im just going to change both of them..
And to top it off they (the auto parts experts) didnt have either in stock.. so now my car is just sitting in the air waiting.. I should be able to get them both in today... Thanks for all the help crasher, and ill keep ya posted
