Civic or Cam project?

OK, im new to the site but it looks great and i like the layout, nothing bugging me, its great.
i thought this was the most appropriate place to put this post, but if not can a mod re-direct me.
My parents recently got me a 1994 v6 black camaro with t-tops, i love it to death but i figured since it isnt a z28, its not worth being mod'd. I just bough some subs and getting amp/newer deck soon, but that will be another post.

I am in a dilema, My origonal plan was to gladly take whatever car my mom got me and then buy a ek and drop a b16a1 or b18c in it, and use their car as a daily driver. But since i got to the site their seems to be people that do stuff to v-6's.

The cost of the civic project would be arouund 800 for shell, and anywhere from 800-1600 for the motor, then all the extras after.

But i see motor swaps in the v-6's, and people going motor, boost, w/e

WHAT SHOULD I DO??? camaro project or civic project (btw, i am just about 17, with an ok job, but with a knowladge of cars)
if u go with camaro can u put me in the right direction on what i should be doing to it...

Re: Civic or Cam project?

I'm kinda biased, but if it were me I'd rebuild the 3.8 in the Camaro with forged internals and put a turbo on it.

Civic. It goes better in the snow, insurance is less, the total cost will be less, and it will get better gas mileage.

Just my opinion.

Edit: Good luck getting a b18c. Do you mean b18c1 from a gsr? Better factor in more money than 1600. B18A1 + homemade turbo

Re: Civic or Cam project?

If you like to drag race I'd mod the camaro because it's RWD. If you don't think the v6 is enough you can always do a v8 swap (but i think modding the v6 is fun). It all depends on what you really want out odf the car in the long run.

Re: Civic or Cam project?

neither option. Save cash and sell the maro and buy a V8.

That civic won't be very fast for all the work you're going to put into it, and in the end it'll be another ricer.

If nothing is wrong with the maro, just keep it, put a catback or something on it to make it funner, and then sell it when you have some cash saved up for something faster.

for the love of god don't be a ricer lol.

If you have a 3.8 you already have a good platform for a solid 14 sec car. If you have a 3.4 it's a little tougher, but not much.

Remember, no replacement for displacement. You already have almost twice as much displacement as a b18.

A boosted b18 civic would be cheap as crap, and can run into the 13s easily. Not fast? Also, a fast car isn't a ricer. A civic with neon, a huge wing, clear taillights, and a piece of crap muffler is rice. Heck, even a camaro with that stuff is rice. A b18 civic, stock other than the b18, will run with a y87 3.8 easily

13s isnt fast. especially consider that a $5k stock LT1 car can run 13s, and is probably in alot better shape. LS1s have been known to hit 12s with tires. Lt1s can hit 12s with a catback, cai, tires and gears.

and a Y87 isn't fast either. I've driven one.

Like i said, best choice is keep it stock and save for something better. if it's in good shape you can get a couple bucks for it. LT1 cars are going for around 5k with decent miles/condition.

Well, all of his options are considerably less than 5K, and the insurance and gas difference is big as well, especially at age 17. I never said a Y87 was fast, but compared to a 3.4 it is. Obviously the optimal move is "get an LS1", but we need to be realistic here. For the time being, it is out of the question money wise. It was just my opinion

exactly. save, sell, buy something better, go faster, imo. That's what I did and don't regret it for a minute.

Re: Civic or Cam project?

well i ahve been thinking about the civic, and i thouight about this thread, and i knew their was gonna be the "dont be a rizer" but it isnt rice... for the $$ i would put into it it would be faster then most cars... and i could do motor work, junkyard turbo, and still have another car to drive around. Saving $$ is not an option... lol, and selling my car is not an option

edit: i am not just getting exaust for my maro.... on a v6 with nothnig done to it.. would sound like crap, and a waste of $$$.
I allready have subs and a head ubnit for my maro, 2x12" premeir's, they bang... and looking for amps... at least a 1000 watt

edit #2: sry, not a b18c, i said that bc my buddy just got one in his civic for 1500, from canada... its sweet

Re: Civic or Cam project?

My Buddy has a 99Bird v6. dont sure of all the work he has done but it fast v6. I know alot of ppl not just here, are going to saying look at gas prices Civic vs V6 Camaro. Why not? this just might be me but i like haveing a Car that isnt the normal not what everbody else is driveing and what u see on the road everday. I have been seeing alot more Rice on the road. im sure this is coming form 2gen's of American Auto workers in the family but buy and HotRod your American Car! But hey just rember no matter what anyone tells you. Your the one that will pay for it, drive it, and work for it So make it what u really want!

Re: Civic or Cam project?

I'd say stick with the maro. Of course I am highly biased for camaros. Really it's all in what you want and how fast you want to go. If you're not planning on going to the track at least every once in a while I would find it hard to dump a lot of money in any car. Just me though. If you want a motor swap either way I've seen running LT1s for under a grand, but you've gotta look. There's a couple of guys on fbody.com with super fast 3.8s, I'm talking 12 second range. Just look into all of the options out there and don't rush into anything.
