Changing wires and plugs

While my engine is getting cold, can someone please tell me how to change the damn wires and plugs? I looked under the hood and DAMN, how do I get there? Do i need to unbolt any extra parts before getting there? Any manuals on-line i can look at?

Is anyone here "brave" enough to let me call them? I will make a call myself, so it should be free for you.

if so, e-mail me: xtcmax@yahoo.com

Thanks

Little more info on what you're driving would be helpful... BUT, I will assume it's a 3800 - Good Luck LOL just kidding.

You get most of them from underneath. The only two I got from the top was the farmost forward one on the drivers side and I think the middle one on the passenger side. Do each one individually - in other words don't pull all the wires then realize you don't know where/which plug the wire goes to. Be prepared to skin your knuckles to the bone and bend your arm(s) into positions that you never thought possible It really is a difficult, but not impossible, job. You'll need an extension for the plug wrench - a flexible one would be even better! You don't need to take anything off to do the job but plan on AT LEAST an hour and a half to do it right - I had help the first time and it took me two + hours (but we stopped a few times for a brew!!!). Don't forget anti-seize on the plugs and the Dielectric (sp?) grease in the boots and connectors of the wires.

Once again, good luck!!!

I'm guessing that you have a 3.8?? The 3.4s are pretty easy to get to I can change out plugs/wires in less than half an hour now. Thats with taking some time out after cursing the damn A/C and EGR stuff on the pass. side.

What year of Camaro do you have? So we can have an idea of which engine you're looking at changing the plugs/wires out on??

i got a 1999 v6 maro. I just checked the engine again and I can see only 1 plug from passenger's side (plug #2) The rest are so damn far away...how do i get a wrench in there? If i go from the bottom, do i need to unscrew anything? I am not affraid to get my hands messed up, i have today and tomorrow off, so i got time. The reason I want to talk on the phone is because it is faster. It is going to be around 300 bucks to change it at a shop. I think if you can do it, so can i. I just need some pointers.

My connection is very slow, takes me about 5 minutes to check e-mail....

Just changed mine and my friends 3.8L Bird. Not fun...especially for me. Wires AND plugs. But we took it to my uncle's shop so we were able to use the lifts. Still though...not fun.

Be prepared for some torn up hands.

The best advice I can give is... to take your time and use common sense. What I'd do *took a look at my friends '97 3.8 a few times* is to just trace the plug wires from the coil packs to their location over the plugs. It'd be best to go from the bottom ::be sure to secure the car good before ya climb under!:: and just take a good look at the engine from below. You should be able to see most of the wires and how they're ran. Maybe have a friend on top assist you with following a wire if needed. Since its your first time it may be best to do it one plug/one wire at a time.

I'd be sure to have a universal joint and an extension for your ratchet so you can pop them on when needed. Be sure to put some anti-sieze on the plug threads and some di-electric gel on the plug wire caps. That way when you do the change again things will pop off/out much easier.

BTW... as far as I know nothing major needs to be removed in order for you to do the swap? It'll just be a major pain in the *** to get around some of the clutter in the engine bay like the A/C and EGR.
