Camaro keeps dieing

I've been having a problem with my camaro just dieing at random lately, maybe once every couple of days or so. The car starts up and fine and runs good, but every once in a while when you stop at a light or stop sign and get ready to take off again the engine just dies and the check gauges light comes on. Then it takes about a minute to get started again, but once started it runs perfectly fine again. Its also died once while i was driving down the road. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If there is nothing that is obviously wrong/broken/malfunctioning, ~ Then the First thing to do is scan for codes.

Very important to know the year and type of car and any mods. This happens a lot and many have never solved it but need more info first.

ok guys heres the info, its 96 v6(yea i know) camaro with a 130 thousand miles, it runs beautiful and strong. When the engine dies it doesnt throw any codes the red check gauges light comes on untill you go and try to start it again then it goes right back off. I have my suspicion of what it might be but i want to know what you guys think. Its all stock car and as far as i know theres nothing wrong with it besides that it shuts off randomly every once in a while.

I'll move your post to the "V6 Tech" forum. LT1 Based Engine Tech is for the LT1 V8 cars.... and the technology is a bit different.

Easiest way to find the problem may be to simply scan the PCM.

Could be a failing Crank Position sensor. I've seen several 3800's with those symtoms when the sensor begins to fail. Other things to check would be fuel pressure when it dies, IAC and EGR mailfunction.
