Cam / Valvetrain
Re: Cam / Valvetrain
There isn't much in cams for the 3.4L because unless you spend the money on a standalone fuel/timing system you can't tune it. There is only one guy I've met who has a cam in his 3.4L and he's on camarov6.com and his s/n is rt1. About the timing tab, there's a little tab or marker whatever you wanna call it. You want to make sure to line this up in the same spot as you took everything apart when you are installing the cam or else your timing will be off and you'll severely screw up your motor.
Re: Cam / Valvetrain
If you're talking about the one on the actual cam then yes you have to take it off the stock one and put it on the new one. The other timing marks are on the chain gear (or whatever you call it).
Re: Cam / Valvetrain
Unfortunately, the 3.4 in the Camaro has flat tappet lifters. It's really too bad that GM didn't utilize the roller engine mechanicals that the front wheel drive versions of the 60 degree V6 have. If you search Comp Cams, etc. look for GM 60 degree V6 (it should say 2.8, 3.1, 3.4 liter). These are all in the same engine family and (correct me if I'm wrong) should all work together the same, barring those nasty computer issues.
Re: Cam / Valvetrain
That would be interesting to see if HP Tuners had something for the 3.4 in the Camaro. Jonathan, when you are talking about 1.7, etc. rockers I assume you are referring to the 3.8 since it came with 1.6 ratio rockers stock. I agree to the great thread comment. It might not hurt to give Digital Horsepower a shout to see if they offer anything.
