Few 3.8 camaro questions

First question is I bought this 96 3.8 camaro in oct and it came with a bad oil sender. I replaced it and at idle it runs just about the 1/4 mark about 35 psi and as soon as you hit the gas its at either a little above or a little below 1/2 mark approx 60 psi. Is this normal for these engines? Just the fact that it drops to about have the running psi at idle, I just want to make sure thats normal for these engines.

Second question is the ADEL computer dignotics connecton/port is that supposed to have a cover over it like the 3rd gens did or is it supposed to be open. I went to a junk yard and found none with covers, either they are missing or just supposed to be that way.

Third question is the sunvisors on the convertible are they the same as a hard top or t-top. I used to have a 3rd gen t-top and put a hard top sunvisor in and there was a slight difference (mount stuck down a little more than t-top version) but unless you look really close its not noticable.

Fourth question is about power windows. They are moving up and down REAL slow. I went in and cleaned them all and re greased them, worked a little for the drivers but not at all for passengers. Is it the regulator or motor or should I just replace both?

Last question is about the wipers, I had one that just went loose (passenger side went totally across windshield) I took it off and it was stripped on the inside a little bit. I took a piece of card board and stuffed it inside and really tightened it down... seems to work great, just wondering if I should replace both wipers now or do you think this would be a more permant fix? Wish they designed these better, like the passenger side wiper on the 3rd gens.

Re: Few 3.8 camaro questions

1: I have a 96 also and mine does fluctuate some.. that sounds a little excessive to me but it could have to do with the oil you are running. are you running 10W30?
2: my diag port never had a cover and I have not seen any that do, don't fill it with dirt and you shold be fine

3: I don't know sorry

4: my car does not have the power windows, but I have read some things on this site and a couple of others that makes me think I am glad of that. everything I have seen tells me that these motors are WEAK and need replacement a lot.

5: Is it the arm that is stripped or th nub that it attaches to? if it is the arm I would just replace it from a bone yard. I have not had this problem with mine. the only problem i have with my wipers is the fact that they don't clean the windshield very well past about 60 MPH .

hope that this helps good luck with the ride

Re: Few 3.8 camaro questions

Hey I appriciate the responces! I am running 5W-30 Synethetic (Its what the manual says) I suppose I could try some 10W-30 since I live in southern Cali and it should stay within that temp range. do you think I have a problem with my oil pressure or not?

With the power windows You think I should replace the regulaor of the motor or just both? How much are these from the dealer? I would only get new since used will have the problem again soon and I don't want to be taking that apart too much. I wish I had the manual ones too.

The wiper is stripped on the arm side. I will probally get new ones if they don't hold up again. I found that the type of wiper blades make a huge difference. Since these are special blades (not universal with most cars) a few places carry them. I tried some cheap ones but found that the more expensive at pep boys works excellent... not much water left behind when wiping and no noise. I am just wondering if my little fix for the arms will last a long time or should I get new ones immediatly? When it stipeed and swung out it was when I was at the high setting and going fast on the highway with heavy rain.

Anyone know if the sunvisors are different for converitabes and if they are will a hard top one work ok in its place?
