Burning out

Well my friend has a 99 z28 and when me and my friends are burning out he usually just sits there and watch. We usually do it when its wet out so it doesnt damage anything but he thinks is still will even if its wet outside. So i just wanted to know is it true. I mean will it damage anything EXP: like tranny, engine, etc... I just wanted to know because if it does then i need to not burn out as much. Thanks

If your doing a neutral drop or brake stance to peel out then yes it doesn't really matter if it's wet or not, it's still pretty bad for the car. Neutral drop is real bad. If you just flooring it then I wouldn't think it would cause anything to break, especially if the tires aren't very sticky.

Its hard on the brakes....and the tranny mainly.

The excess heat can warp the rotors and the tranny just takes a beating

As long as you don't do it for too long it shouldn't hurt anything. After a while, it could hurt your breaks and tranny.

I think the question is why are you doing burn outs so much.. hehe

Might want to save up for some new tires at the rate your going

Just do not jump the gas, sudden jolts to the drivetrain are bad.

You are killing your brakes, and still being pretty rough on your tranny. In the end its not the greatest thing to do, I mean its just burning out. If you are going to do something to beat the drivetain, powerslide the car... or do you have an auto.

just do some donuts or something...powerbraking is really bad on stuff especially if u leave it in D or OD and sit there long enough to start shifting in the burnout....at the track i USED TO burnout all the way into 3rd...then i blew up a rear...

Here's what happens when you do burnouts

1) Brake stands--you heat up the tranny and the brakes. Plus you're putting a lot of strain on the engine, and you're shredding your tires (less if it's wet out)

2) Donuts - tires, steering, engine, and suspension components. It wears the tires, puts strain on the engine, and with all that steering you're likely to heat up the PS pump a lot...and you're putting a lot of stress on the steering arms, joints, hubs, bearings... Also not so good for the transmission since you're probably giving it some good jolts

3) Flooring from a stop -- sudden jolts to the driveline as stated above are not good. Lots of stress on the rear gears. Will eat the tranny if you shift from N to D or 3 while spinning high RPM's.

Plus it's a waste of gas, and not worth being noticed.

(okay maybe I'm sounding pessimistic. Well, that's because I had to buy new tires for my car not too long ago and it emptied my wallet)

I get free tires for as long as I own my car... But I've never done a burnout, I might do it once. I'd never do it on a regular basis.
