BAD cooling problem in 94 camaro
BAD cooling problem in 94 camaro
Ok this problem just came all of a sudden one day.. I cannot drive my car for more than 3-4 minutes without it overheating and it starts throwing antifreeze out from around the egnine block area.. I got a pressure test done at a local auto shop and was told it is my timing cover gasket that needs to be replaced... Gonna cost 800 dollars including a new water pump and thermostat... My engine has a lil over 200,000 miles on it and I'm thinking that things are just going to continue breaking... I would appreciate some feedback on your opinions.. Thank You
P.S.- How much do you think I can find a new engine for? V-6 prefferably

Re: BAD cooling problem in 94 camaro
i actually did the repair on my 94 camaro. there are several things involved with it though. right under the intake maniold in the front where the "Y" comes together theres a fitting on the engibne block itself with several small hoses. theres a plastic piece inside the fitting that goes giving the illusion of a timing case leak. repair costs 10-12 dollars. wrap new fittin in teflon and put it in. also if theres is a leak on the front of the block, its is most likely the water pump gasket. the timing case gasket may also be bad, but the leak will force coolant through the timing case gasket and will also force it out onto the block through the water pump gasket. replace both gaskets, it will save you a problem that will occur later. also the design on the engine allows the coolant to sit in the timing case, also sittin on the timing chain. replace the timing chain as well, with 200,00o miles on the engine, its pretty stretched, plus the coolant hitting it will damage the chain. also to be sure its done right, replace the thermostat as well, thast what can start the whole problem. total cost of parts is 50-75 dollars. most of the work is just bolt removal and gasket scraping. you will need a puller to get the harmonic balancer and damper off though. its took about 3 days to do it. see if you know anyone that can help, it saves A LOT of money.
