Air Induction

Looking for ways to improve my air induction on a 99 Camaro 3.8L. Right now, I have a K&N filter in the stock box. I'm looking at this:

http://www.rksport.com/rkstore/produ...ne+Accessories

Also, I'm thinking about purchasing the hi-flow air lid: http://www.rksport.com/rkstore/produ...es+%26+Filters

How much would that help out? Also, would I be able to use the K&N filter I currently have? Another option I'm looking at is just bypassing the stock air box and doing some kind of CAI.

Any suggestions?

Not sure if the module is really worth the amount of HP they are advertising, but I guess it won't hurt, either.

As for the lid, sure it'll help a bit. And you'll be able to use your existing K&N filter, too. You'll gain a few HP's and feel some SOTP improvement. Not sure about any dyno or track numbers, but I'm sure somebody here has made some comparisons and will pitch in.

My suggestion, however, is that buy the lid used. You'll get it about 30-40% cheaper off this board or camarov6.com. Maybe even from Ebay. 160+ bucks is ridiculous price.

Later!

What are the differences between the lids? Just the size (volume of air that moves through), design, or what?

Go to www.thunderracing.com and get the Whisper Lid and the SLP CAI. I have both and I got .4 off my 1/4 et with the combination. That module is a waste of money.

Looks like I'll do that. The only thing I have issues with is the Fast Toys ram air - seems as if water could be a problem?

---
The Fast Toys ram air kit does draw air from under the vehicle. This does increase the chance that you could get water into your airbox. However, the opening of the lower duct sits halfway up the a/c condenser and below that is completely open. The duct work itself also goes vertical for another foot allowing gravity to do it's job and discard spashed water and debris. As such, most customers generally choose to drive with the ram air kit functioning in the rain, snow etc. The biggest concern would be if you were to hit a very deep puddle at very high speed. This could force a sufficient quantity of water into the airbox which may enter the motor. To alleviate this concern, we do include a block off plate with the kit to disable the ram air kit. We recommend you use this block off plate when necessary to prevent possible damage to your motor. The block off plate can be installed in a few minutes and prevents water from coming up through the duct work.
---

Anybody experienced any problems with this happening? I was thinking about lining the inside with some thin foam, to attract what moisture did get up into the duct?

Any ideas?

On a side note, is the Y pipe upgrade for the V6 worthwhile? How many cats does the Y have in it stock, and how many would the new one have? Better airflow, and wider I assume too?

you wont have any problems with water with a fast toys cold air induction, unless you like driving your car into huge puddles at high speeds.
the rksport lid is the same thing as whisper lid, but it says rksport on it. thats the only diff. i actually like the whisper cause it says 3800 II.
dont waste your money on that module.
if you really dont like the cai idea you can just cut that plastic that is under the K&N under the air lid. that will get you more air into the intake. if i remember right you can actually cut like 2 4X5 inches of plastic under the air filter.
if you are gonna upgrade the y pipe might as well do the headers to. wont do you any good to open up the y then have a restrictive exhaust.
hopes this helps.

and btw, rksport is the most expensive place to shop for mods. but they have nice calanders and carbon fiber nose emblems
