Post 99 V6 needs gears what should it get?

A friend of mine has a 99 V6 automatic that he wants to put gears in. It has 3.23s in it and he wants more. Should he go with 3.42's or step up to 3.73s? This car is in Miami so it needs to be daily driveable and the car is always on the highway doing at around 80 so gas mileage is another issue. If any of you have these gears could you please tell me what RPMs he would be at around 80? Any help would be awesome! Thanks

Go with the 3.42s. If he does alot of street/dragracing, then get 3.73s

I just went from 3.23s to 3.42s. Definately go with the 3.73s. And make sure to get an lsd unit at the same time (only $99 from rksport) along with the additive.

Just an opinion, but gear changes are not easy or cheap... if he needs the car as a daily driver, 3.73's are too high. The jump from 3.23 to 3.42 isnt' that significant. I would spend the money on something else.

Does he have a high stall converter? 2800 or 3000 rpm, 9.5". That will boost the rearend, what about one piece aluminum driveshaft?

If he were at 3.08's, i'd be all over suggesting 3.42's, but it's not as significant a difference when you've already got 3.23's.

Good luck...
