Question 94 V6 Firebird

I wanted to start doing a little work to my car, and am pretty new to this. I have about $500 to work with. I want to make my car sound louder, not like those stupid civics, but a better quality sound, and wanted to add some horsepower. Does anyone have any suggestions on what i can have done to my car? I wouldnt have to pay any labor to have someone install everything, I'd only have to pay for what I'd be having put in.

Hmm... I am not the best with exhaust, but I know no exhaust sounds pretty mean COurse it really really loud.

I have heard a stock Catback exhasut system off a v8 firebird or camaro sounds pretty mean with a 3.4L.

As for some easy bolt ons, put in some sort of Cold air intake, and some routine maintenace on the car should keep it going good.

Personally, I thought the sway bars and Strut tower brace was one of my best mods, doesn't give the car any more power, but makes it more fun to take corners fast.

hey welcome to the board!! Yeah , start with the cold air intake , they have Slp cold air intake and moroso .You can get the moroso cold air intake (CAI) for 189.00$$ at WWW.summitracing.com , but I dont know too much about the SLP CAI . Then after you get the exhaust , Go for a decent exhaust. If price is no problem for you then I would recommend Borla exhaust , It cost around 500 dollars and its quality is really good (stainless steal). There is also Flowmaster exhaust, Dynomax , loudmouth exhaust , and a couple others , those also sound good too

MustangEater, Which strut tower brace did you get? I was looking at the one that BMR has for $90. Whats the difference of that one and the Chrome Moly?

My suggestion for the exhaust would be the Edelbrock Performer RPM Catback. It's cheaper than the Borla or B&B because it's aluminized steel, yet sounds just as good.

I was showing it off for my new roommate last night, I revved it and set off two car alarms.

By the way, welcome to the board.

borla sounds too nasty for a v6 imo....get something like an edelbrock or flowmaster system. less than half the price, and sounds way better i think

Edgewater??

My ex is from there....

Anyways the 3.4L you won't be able to do much with performance wise with only 500. I would get a 1999+ Trans Am take off mufler and tips..that will give you duals and sound better. I would spend the rest of the money on stereo, better wheels..if you have the ones like mine..and appearence.

Thanks... Ive been looking up some things and Ive heard a lot of good stuff about SLP Loudmouth exhaust, I guess Im kinda considering that. Is there anything I should do before I put that in, like a cold air intake or anything else, if I havent done any kind of modifications yet?

Why would you want to upgrade a 3.4? All this money towards no performance and you need brake work.

My opinion would be to sell that slow 4th gen and buy a nice 3rd gen - like mine

And what do you mean no labor costs? You can't do the work yourself.

Heh...how much power does your 1985 Z have...left?

Actually...stock #'s aren't too impressive but you've modded it pretty good. Same thing goes for the 3.4...actually any car.
