For the money that it cost to do the swap I would say just go with an LT1 swap.

If I remember right, there are some differences which make it difficult to swap to an F-body. I am pretty sure I've read about it here or at www.firebirdv6.com ...

Anyway, just like Ryan said, with probably close to the same amount of $$$, you'll put an LT1 in there.

Good luck!

i'd think the 4.3 would be cool, but it's just a small block chevy with two cylinders chopped off, same bore and stroke as a 350 same bolt patterns, etc. but they do make alot of performance stuff for the 4.3 so maybe if you get one outta a wreked extreme and find the bolt on's for it. who knows?

Used LT1's are cheaper than the 4.3's I "think".I know you can pick up LT1's for around $1500 total including tranny and computer all over E-bay.Good luck.

Cheaper for a V8? No, guess again.

I bought a 4.3L w/ all accessories (even the AC), wiring harness, PCM, fuel pump, and 5 Spd Tranny mated with it all out of a 98 S10 w/ 30K miles on it all for $700. They even took about 2 hours and ripped it out of what was left of the truck. I tore the motor down and was going to make it into a monster via the guys @ Mach Performance... but it wasn't a financially smart decision for me @ the time so I sold it. I was going to build it and 'charge it before dropping it in my old '99 Xtreme 4 banger.

I really don't think the swap would be that hard. You'd have to deal with the intake manifold though as the throttle body point s straight up. A company made a prototype manifold for it and chevy sponsored it and all - it was called the ZZ4.3 (after the crate motors), and it had an LT1 style manifold that actually added approx 60 HP to the stock motor allowing it to be pushing approx 250 w/ an otherwise stock 4.3L.

Through the guys @ MachPerformance the 4.3L is easily capable of pushing well over 500 horsepower. $3000 in parts to build the motor, $3500 for the 3-core intercooled supercharger running 12psi+, and wulla. Of course unless you do all the labor yourself its gonna be a little more than that.

Alright I'm done blabbering.

Why not get a 92-95 CPI VORTEC 4.3?

Then the intake is no problem and it makes more power than the 96+ 4.3
