Question Is the 3.8L V6 in the '98+ a good engine?

Alright, so lately I've been considering trading my '94 Trans Am for a '98+ V6 Firebird. So I was wondering if the V6 in these things are any good? Are they reliable, is there anything in them that is known to break a lot. Is there any reason to not get one, other than the fact that it's very underpowered?

I would most likely be getting one with an automatic transmission. Are there any commonly known problems with those? Honestly, I just want a nice looking '98+ Bird that's reliable, comfortable, efficient, and will make a good daily driver. Thanks.

I'm not diving in to this idea yet. I'm just researching and seeing if it's a viable option. I really like the look of the '98+ Birds and would love to have a newer less worn down car. Well, thanks again.

This is a reliable, good push rod engine and will go 160,000 miles before needing a timing chain, alternator, AC compressor and a second water pump. If you change the oil regularly and keep the radiator purged with new antifreeze by the book. The engine is a sawed off V8 that has a counter rotating shaft because the balance is off a bit for a 90 degree V6. Modern sixes are 60 degree and have overhead cams ~ no push rods or counter rotating shafts are needed. They seem to be about the same reliability but more powerful and lighter due to innovation, alloys and architecture.

Alright, thanks for the info. Guess I'll have to give it some real deep thought. As much as I love how beast my T/A sounds and how fun it is to drive, I just haven't gotten any real good use out of it. I still haven't even hit the strip with it. And I love how the '98+ Firebirds look. Damn, this is going to be a though decision.

Has anyone ever but an Eaton Generation III M90 supercharger and made it into a wanna be L67? I imagine those sell pretty cheap at the junker, due to all the cheapo cars that had them on there. Also, why is there only a 35 hp difference in power between that and the L36? Would it be possible to get more power by dropping it in an L36, swapping pulleys, getting injectors and a tune, and having all the bolt on's, such as cold air intake, headers, catless y-pipe, and Magnaflow catback.
