97 Trans Ams didnt have LS1s. That wasnt until 98. If its a LT1 the motor swap wont be too hard. If its a LS1 out of a 97+ vette or a 98+ F-body, you may run into some complications. Find out what motor it really is.

ls1 don't fit into 93-97 cars. The ls1 is a taller engine. THe reason they redesigned camaros in 98 was to fit the ls1's into the car. and like he said, 97 f bodies had lt1s. only corvettes had ls1 in 97.

iv'e heard it may be able to fit, but it just isn't worth it. I would just get a v8. But if you really want to swap engines just get an lt1. it is much cheaper and it will fit easier. Also it has about the same potential as the ls1 if you are planning to mod it.

People have put an LS1 into a 93-97.... Anything is possible with time and money.

Heh, the time and money spent on doing an V6 to LT1/LS1 conversion is not worth it IMHO. I've thought about doing the swap on my '96, but after seeing the parts list and all of the crazy stuff that has to be done to the car, I decided to just leave well enough alone. If you do decide to go for the swap, good luck!

The LS1 is not taller, it will fit in with your stock hood and body. You need a new crossmember, engine, trans, wiring harness and pcm for starters.

Even if it were taller, nothing a new hood couldn't help

Yea, but if they find out if its been altered to an 8 cylinder, they wouldn't have to cover it if you got into a wreck
