Hey, I just bought new tires. I had them installed at tires plus. They only had one set that fit mine so I took it. They are all season, so I’m disappointed in that. I wanted performance tires. I also installed the edelbrock catback exhaust last Wednesday. That took me about 5 hours and a lot of work. The spark plugs and spark plug wires are in too. So it’s running pretty good. The only thing now is the “service engine soon” light that just came on after the tire install. What do you think would cause that? All the new equipment ? would that have something to do with it? Your new cat-back system might be pissing off the secondary O2 sensor that sits behind the cat converter. If that's what it is, I would really worry about it. You might want to go over to AutoZone and ask them to give you a free OBD-II diagnostic. I know the ones around where I live do it for free, and they'll just plug the diag tool in and give you the error code. Then you can take your code straight over to http://www.obdii.com/ and figure out exactly what's causing it.

If you plan on keeping that car you have and doing more mods to it, I'd really suggest investing in your own OBD-II diag tool. I bought one for like $160 at AutoZone after pulling my hair out on an ignition problem I was working on for two weeks. The diag tool ended up showing me an error on a $20 sensor, which I replaced and the car ran smooth as ever. I really wish I had bought the daig tool earlier

I just noticed you have a '95 Camaro... no OBD-II for you, just OBD. Still could be an O2 sensor causing the code, but no need for an OBD-II diag tool. The OBD diag tools are like $30, which you don't really need since a paper clip'll do just fine. All you'll have to do is short pins 5 and 12 (I think) and turn the car on. The SES light should blink, giving you an error code between 1 and 99. It still might be easier just to head over to AutoZone for a free diagnostic still. Counting that SES light gets tedious!

 

Do the Autozone's in FL still offer to check your codes for free?

Out here in Cali, I went about a month ago and the said they couldn't do it anymore. Something about a law that went into effect starting this year.

 

Yeah, actually they just started doing that. I just went there last weekend to pick up some parts for my '67 and there's a big sign on the window advertising free scans. It's a shame they didn't have that 6 months ago when my '96 was in need of some diagnosing

Oh, sweet! I didn't even know they made 95's with the 3800 in it. Well, if there's an OBD-II connector under the dash, diagnosing the problem should be a lot easier
