1997 Camaro RS

Hello all, since this is the V6 thread i thought it would be the best place to ask a few questions about the RS.
Im 16 and i get my licence soon and at first i wanted a Z28 but then i realized i wouldent beable to pay the insurence n stuff. I want a 1997 RS cause liked the way it looks and the engine is not small either. (3.8 V6). I would like a Manual trans in it but i find that they rarely have that kind of trans. Also anyone what kind of flaws and other stuff do i need to know about before buying one. Can anyone give me some specs on it and heads up about it. Thanks

Re: 1997 Camaro RS

Get t-tops, that's my recommendation.

No common problems come to mind with the 3.8l it's a pretty reliable engine. With all 4th gens. I'd look under the front bumper to see what kind of curb rash it has. It's fairly common for that part to get scrapped the way it sticks out.

All the 96+ V6 camaros (and some 95s) have the same 3.8l engine. So I wouldn't rule out a non RS. Just my opinion, good luck in your search.

Like he said dont rule out for a RS any 96+ model camaro has a 3.8l and are just as good. But the RS would be nice to have.

Headers, Hi Flow Cat, 2.75 inch Exhaust and Muffler W / Tips ... They'll all hang about the same... If I were you I would look into a Y87... 3.42 gears REALLY pep these cars up... I was fortunate and found a Black Y87 T-Top RS... It's unbeatable if you get passed it's maintenance issues...

Re: 1997 Camaro RS

I first started looking for a 97 RS but in the end I got a better deal on a 98 with extremely low miles.

Good luck finding a nice one now that it's 8 years old the pickings are getting slim

If I could do it over again I'd get a 5 speed, I think it would of been more fun in this car.

For me, couldnt find a Z that was even close to what Id pay, a 5sp was a must. Its a blast in my 99'. Kick a$$ gas mileage and plenty of pep to smoke most cars out there. I love the 3rd gear jump at 60, breaks tires loose then its hold on!! Of course now im on the prowl for an SS...speed is like heroine!
