1996 posi??
1996 posi??
Hey guys, i was just wondering if my '96 camaro 3.8L has posi or not, because when i do a burnout, it only leaves one tread, but when my buddy, who has a '96 Firebird 3.8L does a breakie, he leaves two treads. Does the left tire eventually spart spinning? or does just the firebirds have it and not the camaro. Help me out guys.

Re: 1996 posi??
If you leave one tire mark, you don't have LSD (limited slip differential, NOT posi).
Your firebird buddy probably has the sports package or had an LSD put in.
Do a search under "LSD" and you'll get a bunch of info if you plan on installing in the future.

you can also check your codes, see if you have the y87 code on your door jam. then see if he does, im sure he does though.
if you want one, you will want to get gears at the same time. theres plenty of info if youre search.

Re: 1996 posi??
like they said most V6's come with limited slip , I ended up putting a Richmond Gear Powertrax system and it is fairly easy to install if you are fairly mechanicaly inclined and dont want to change your gears out about $500 thoughso you can hook up with both tires instead of one
Re: 1996 posi??
Hey guys, thanks for the info. Where abouts on the door jam would this code be located? Also, when i dump the clutch and do a burnout, it leaves one streak, but when i'm already moving, and punch it on a turn, if i look back in my mirror, there are two streaks. Is this maybe just because the other one is sliding, or does it actually spin. I have not yet done a breakie so i don't know if the other tire spins.

Another way to verify if you have Y87 performance package is what kind of stock exhaust do you have? one tip out the left=no two turned down =yes.
My car doesnt have a LSD, if I hit the gas it will leave only one mark on the pavement, but if I'm on something slippery, (ice, snow) then it will leave 2 because it's equil traction.
Sounds like your car doesnt have it.
