I dont see why you would ever resort to carbing a LS1, they're friggin fuel injection and can supply splenty of the good stuff. The price of this is all going to depend on what I use for the block and where I get it from. Any suggestions?

uh, LUCK and lots of it! Should be fine with a 350. THis kid in the Rx-7 probably doesnt even know how to drive, and assuming that you do, the 350 swap will put you well ahead of him. Like the one guy said, there will always be another car that will beat you. Accept this as how life is and get on with ho you want your car to perform. Good luck! On a side note, what yeat is this Rx-7? There are certain years that are pretty quick.

Re: What do I need to win?

My mistake, not a Rx-7, but a brand new rx-8. You guys arent getting me point, I have been meaning to do this type of thing for a long but have been procastinating until now. The fact that this spoiled kid is getting a brand new car was just the motivation to get me going. Also, considering its an RX-8 not just any 350 will do, it will still have to be built strong. I'm really looking for like 300 NA rwhp and pulling down low 13's? Then possibly later adding a decent shot of nitrous as insurance that could pull me into the upper 12's?

Re: What do I need to win?

I only mentioned carbing an LS1 because the guy doesn't seem like he wants to do the wiring. There is nothing wrong with throwing a carb on an LS1. Did you see the test last year in Popular Hot Rodding? I'm pretty sure it was close to 450 h.p.. There is nothing wrong with throwing a carb on a fuel injected engine, seeing how your car comes with a carb. If it came fuel injected with wiring, computer, ect., then that's when it gets stupid! Or even better yet since you seem to have all this money saved, sell your current car and buy a stock LT1 F-body and walk this guy all day long.

I am that guy above, were one in the same. I got no problem with the work of the LS1, its the money. Also the biggest plus of the thing is the fuel injections and effeciency which would nixed by sticking a big carb on top. Basically I'm considering a LS1/LT1, 350, 355, or 383.

Re: What do I need to win?

An RX-8 HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! No worries bro. Especially if its an automatic. Those cars are slower than dog S**T. What is wrong with high school kids these days, with all the possible cars your can buy and they pick an RX-8. I had a kid in a brand new RX-8 that wanted to race me when my car was supercharged. I just laughed at him. He didnt understand. Another case of too much of the Fast and the Furious. Race this *** clown and see what happens. Good way to evaluate his driving skill and his cars ability. And if he edges you out, you will know exaclty what you will need to do in order to snow him in a future match up. Honestly, I wouldn't even bother. Give him some advice, sell the RX-8 and buy a mid 90's supra.

First off clean car

As far as engines...check the local machine shops...someone is always defaulting on work done...and you can sometimes pick up a worked engine much cheaper...especially if the customer had supplied lots of parts...I would say easiest would be a carbed smallblock...you could always look through some old Hot Rods they are constantly doing budget build ups...copy the parts and go...you have a lot of options...I would go with whatever is easiest or presents it's self first...

Re: What do I need to win?

Thank you, thats a good post right there. I really want like the idea of a simple 350 buildup but I also like the idea of getting good gas mileage in a modern package since Im still young and will be driving this thing ALOT. From what I've heard any small block with a carb is going to be pretty fuel effecient and I dont like that so much considering I plan on owning this for a long time and driving it like hell. Thats why I was pushing for the LS1.

Re: What do I need to win?

Haha well I got about half of what you just said. I alright got 17" SLP's and Im running a 245/50/17. Im not going to be tearing out my interior because its all new and theres no chance in hell Im going to rip it out especially when Im only going for low 13's. There are no smog laws I dont think here in south bend, Indiana but theres strong talk about it happening in like 3 years so thats another reason why I want a little more modern engine.
