Trip down memory lane

I was flipping through some old videos on vhs ...lol and came across one of my best ever runs back in the day that I wish to tell you fellers about...(lights pipe and sits back in swingset)

It was late September 2000 at the local 1/8th mile track and some buds and I were getting serious in this drag racing thing. I was driving my 1997 Black TA that was an auto with 3.42 gears, vig stall, catback, cold air and a healthy 125 dry shot. My bud was in his newly aquired 1997 Cobra that was supercharged. His ride was simply awesome and I had nothing ,but mucho respect for it. Well, after I get the drag radials bolted on and get into the staging lanes, I see he has pulled over at the bottom and told the staging guy that he requests to wait on me. I was getting sweaty palms at this point after having trouble with the nitrous earlier that week. I get down and he smiles as we pull into the lanes. I concentrated hard on my burn out and purged the spray up into the air. I could hear the crowd cheering when I did that. Then he pulls up beside and revvs up. Again the crowd went crazy after they identified the loud whine under his hood. We stage em up and the light drops. I tree him good and wheel hopped a little coming out. I knew I had him from the get go as his front end faded from my side door. About mid track I glance quickly to see his front pulling back on me to my door!!! WTF!!!!
He was driving the **** out of that Cobra! We crossed the line with me leading by 3/4ths of a car on him. This was an awesome race as we turned the following times.
Me 7.76 to his 7.83
Our mph was pretty colse in the mid 90s

Now that gents was the good ole days. I sure miss my black TA and how well it loved the spray. My bud got rid of his Cobra a few years later and moved on to other rides. My point of this story is not about the kill, but about living in the moment. It seems as if it were yesterday, but its really just a good memory on a tape thrown in a box in the attic.
Anyway, I thought I would post it up since the board has been slow.
Later
Mike
