Took out a Lightning
Took out a Lightning
Last Thursday night on the Sam Houston Tollroad feeder, northbound at Richmond. I'm first at the light in the right lane and there's a car in the center lane. A truck pulls up in the left lane, but I can't see exactly what it is for the car in between, and I'm really not payin' much attention anyway.
Light turns green and I do my usual "slightly faster than most people" thing. I've just shifted to second when out of the corner of my eye I see the truck taking off. Caught me off guard and I was a long way from ideal RPM in 2nd. I floored it, then shifted to 3rd at about 6800 RPM.
By the time I let off, around 85-90, even spotting him the jump with me off guard in the wrong gear, I'd say I had 4 car lengths on him. I didn't even know it was a Lightning until we pulled up to the next light and both smiled with a thumbs-up. Looked like a 2003-2004. He was cool about losing.
My car has been a longterm work in progress, with a few glitches along the way. It's never been to the dyno or the track. I've beaten 911s and newer SC Cobras from a dig, but you never know how well the other guy can drive. So really, I know my car is fast, but without a time slip, how fast?
Ripping that Lighting from a pretty big disadvantage probably made me happier than anything else I've run. I know what kind of speed a Lightning has, even stock. My mental math tells me I'm low 12's, at least.

Re: Took out a Lightning
Good Kill, stock L's are too scary, but dump about $1k into them and they are easily running with cars trapping in the 114-115 range in the mid to low 12's. I edged a relatively stock one out before, but modded they are no joke. Ask Cantonracer
I'd say low 12's would be a decent expectation, although I am not familiar with your cam or head setup.
