5 speed or 6 speed?

Hey I’m Shane I’ve posted here under this name Shanezam203 for a little bit last year, i had a 94 trans am up until July of 2002. I sold it for a 2000 Lightning. I don’t regret it one bit I love my L...
I do wish i can have both though, my old ta, and my L... Just recently I’ve been thinking about getting a newer firebird. I've always loved the looks of the new ws6, but don’t NEED to pay for a new trans am, weather it be through gas, insurance, tires... While i also have my truck. I think I’ll be just as happy with a nice 5 speed 3.8L 98-99 Firebird with T tops and low miles. It wouldn’t be anything I’d really mod out... I've got my truck for that, and i am glad to say i am confident my truck will break into the 12's the first day of spring when i take it to the track and all I've got is a chip, filter, pulley and exhaust. So as far as the Firebird all I’d do if anything would be exhaust and I’d like to purchase the ws6 ram air hood for it. I am not looking to spray or supercharge it, I’m not looking for speed. I am looking for an everyday driver car and i really miss driving around in my TA with the t tops off and having people just gawk at my red trans am. Don’t get me wrong I get plenty of complements on my truck, but still to this day for every compliment i get on it, I get 2 questions, why'd you trade in your trans am for a truck?
My question is if anyone can relate to me step in here please.
After i get this 6 cylinder, will i get tired of it, and want something else like a real ws6 trans am? I guess if that’s what i want i can just save a little more $ and i can get that later, and have a 98 ws6 and my Lightning witch would be my dream, but do i NEED that? not really. For now, I’m looking to get more info on some 98-2000 v6 firebirds. I can tell you almost everything about our Lightning’s, i can tell you the difference in the 99 and 2000, i can tell you what size rear end they upgraded to in 01 and 02.... My questions are for you F-body guys... Can you recommend any year over the other for me between 98 and 2001? Even if im getting a 3.8L is there anything i should look for? Again i had a 94 trans am and LOVED it, i sold that for my 2000 Lightning and i love that even more. But i miss riding around in my firebird with the tops off. Any advise anyone can give me that owns a v6, how they drive? Or that has both a z28/ws6 and a 3.8l (if anyone) Like i said I’m in Illinois so my truck is stored winters so i am looking for something i can drive in the winter months and then off and on if I’m working on my truck in the summer... Does a 5-speed 3.8 L 98-99 firebird sound alright for me?

you might wanna look at the 2000+ birds since they have a more header like manifold. Also you might wanna get the Y87 package which has a limited slip differential, 3.42 gears if you get an automatic, formula/trans am/z28 steering ratio, and dual exhaust. You can check out what my 2000 bird sounds like with a lid/filter/B&B exhaust at

Dual OUTLET exhaust.
It's single from the manifolds to the muffler.

UNFNick2 i love your 2000 Firebird! That looks awsome and that is exactly what im looking for if im not getting a TA. That looks awsome! Withing a year from now if not sooner, what should i expect to pay for a 2000 5 speed with the y87 package here in Illinois?
Also i had a 94 trans am that ran 14.8 and i've been reading around some of these 3.8's are breaking into the 14's with just a few mods, how is that? Like i said b4 i dont wanna go crazy moding this Firebird cause i do have some more i want to do to my Lightning, but how is that? How can you compare a 3.8L firebird to a 94 5.7L 350 ta? Also if i can get some more pics of the 98-2000 body style firebirds, I'd appreciate it. Thank you, Shane
