But why are shorties useless on an LS1?
Because the stock manifolds flow as well or almost as well. The 00-02 model F-bodies flow just as well as shorties so there would be 0 rwhp gains. The 98-99 models are slightly more restictive and shorties would net probably a 5 rwhp gain. However LT headers with ORY has in many cases gained 20-25 rwhp.

If emissions is not a concern then it's a total waste to spend money to gain 0-5 rwhp when 20-25 is obtainable by going to LT headers instead.

The only thing worth it he bought was probably the short shifter. I'm sure the car feels much faster, and could explain his .4 tenths drop. Those things make manuals so much easier to drive. One step away from a ratchet shifter almost. Which, btw, would be extremely cool.

I assume your 13.4 was with a fairly crappy sixty.
Drop yours ixty to a 2.0 and you should run 12's with n/p what so ever.
Im thinking 12.7-12.9@108-109.

because on OBDII cars most states just check the cpu from the diagnostic port. If it dont throw any codes it'll pass. Unless ofcourse they take the time to put it on a lift to check for cats or emmisions related parts undeneith. I know a couple of guys that used to work at a garage that did inspections. They told me that they did the diagnostic scan then if the car had wheels that you could see the brakes they would'nt bother putting it on the lift.
