My first ricer flyby, I'm so flattered
I know this was not a "race" but I thought you guys would get a kick out of it anyway. Picture this, it's 70 degrees and sunny. My T-tops are in the back as I'm enjoying the weather on my ride home from work. I live 15 minutes away and it's all side roads with 35-45 mph speed limits.
I approach a red light and spot a yellow Cavalier waiting at the light in the left lane. I'm in the right lane with no other traffic around. As I get close I notice he has a fart can style muffler. When I stoped next to him at the light I noticed the red flames on the door and a girl was in the passenger seat.
Now I do not street race ever. You can rev on me all day and I will not bite. I only race at the track where it's safer and perfectly legal. With that said I hit the gas on green at maybe 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. It was aggressive acceleration but by far not WOT. My A4 shifted at 3500-4000ish rpms. I looked and he was way behind. Again I wasn't racing as I stopped accelerating at 50 mph (speed limit was 45) and never went WOT. At the point I stopped he was 6 cars back. Then it happened. I hear the angry bees and he flys by me (he was doing 80 I would say). As they pass the passenger waves at me. I started laughing as I can not really believe he or she could have considered that a race and certainly not a kill on thier part.
But the story does not end. I'm still in the right lane and he in the left. I did NOT accelerate to chase him but he did hit another red light. There are no left turning lanes on this road and a lot of people live in this subdivision so I always stay in the right lane. See the left lane almost always gets you caught behind someone waiting for traffic to clear to turn left down a side street. Sure enough the cavalier was behind a car turning left with heavy traffic on the other side preventing them from doing so. So me and about 10 other cars all passed him on the right. I returned the rude wave as I passed him. By the time he got around I rolled through a yellow light and he stopped as it was red by the time he got there. I didn't see him again and was almost home anyhow.
Since I do not street race I don't get opportunities to experience the ricer flybys I heard so much about here. Now I have and I feel so honored.
Just thought I would share and yes I know this thread is pointless.

That's how I would have taken off from that light if a mini-van was next to me. That's how I would have taken off from that light if no one was next to me. That's just how I drive when I have no one in front of me as long as it's at least 40 mph zone. I don't go beyond 5 mph over the posted speed limit in town and I stay within 15 over on the highway. This has kept me out of traffic court for 5 years and running (knock on wood).
