Re: Mustangs are slow!

Good kill, but.... lol, i wouldn't go as far as to call ALL of them slow. The modular blocks are hideously strong with an awsome valvetrain to go with it. Some 4V 4.6s have surpassed 1400hp using the factory block and cobra crank (it isn't hard to swap 4V heads into a 2V engine, btw). With builds using the 4V 5.4L engine coming along, more impressive numbers are sure to follow. I used to be a modular basher, but since the racing world started to warm up to them and show their potential, i've taken a liking to them. Neat little engines... sort of a modern LT5, so to speak. And they just sound so damn good too.

Re: Mustangs are slow!

Yes, not all mustangs are slow, just many of them are. Either way, in my opinioin the mustang looks sooooooooooo much uglier than a fbody. I would take a 12 second fbody over a 10 second mustang any day of the week. I could always mod up the fbody and get it into the 10's later, but i could never forgive myself for driving a mustang, even if it was a 10 second car.

Re: Mustangs are slow!

Mikie, I didn't once say they were all slow, your Mach 1's 4V is a little different than the one in the 96-98 cobras . I love the 03/04 Cobras capabilitys and know how fast they are (have several buddys that have em, one ran a 12.6 stock and is doing 11.6's with just a x-pipe, cat-back, pulley, intake and a tune.. I think 458 to the wheels? Hes porting the blower this winter) My first comment was that I hate hearing go race a 03/04 cobra after someone states a kill against any mustang at all, that isnt a 03/04 Cobra .. then said I have no worries with the 96-98 Cobras in response to the same person who made the 03/04 comment.

Re: Mustangs are slow!

No problem bro,
I was quoting you really only to touch on the 14second comment on slicks.
I can only imagine that something was terribly wrong with that car.

Not bashing on you or anything like that, just throwing out my opinion.

Re: Mustangs are slow!

A 96-98 Cobra is a very, very good run for an LT1. A 99-04 GT is pretty close too - especially if the race is short.

Re: Mustangs are slow!

either way year for year GM beat the mustangs every year in stock form, not including the cobras of course since GM didnt reall have much to compete except the ss/ws6 packages.

LOL, isnt that the truth.

Yea lets not include the DOHC because why?. SS and WS6 package isnt worth **** as far as more power went wheres the dohc had potential unlike the pre 99 sohc. Gm didnt beat the mustang every year...96-97 the dohc was a little faster then the LT1..then the Ls1 was faster up to 01...then the terminator and the death of the fbody took care of the rest. Even today even though not in a fbody the newest Cobra doesnt have much problem taking out the newer LS2.

Re: Mustangs are slow!

I just get a kick out of reading "Mustangs are Slow" when the original poster knows very little about the car he was "racing". If in fact he was racing seems to be another question.

Every Camaro I've ever raced has lost, so in turn "Camaros are Slow". That will be my next Kill Story title.

Well I'd have to side with GM in the 96-97 years too, since the DOHC Cobra was an optional package, its only fair to include GM's optional LT4 package.
