MOMsracing super shootout
Well last night my local club had a HUGE Mustang gathering for our 2nd points race. We started the day with a buffet at Brian's USA diner with all proceeds going to Mercy Flight. We then had a police escort from there to the track. It was pretty fun because the cops blocked off the road and let everyone burn out of the diners parking lot. An editor from Muscle Mustang and Fast Fords was present and took photographs.
When we arrived there were 85 cars entered and plenty more spectators present.
Now on to the racing.
I was able to get 5 runs in and lost right out of the gate during time trials to a modded SN95 Cobra.
First, the times were almost dead even at the 1/8 with him scoring a 8.643 to my 8.657 but his top end shined and gave him the light with a 13.356@105.38 to my 13.542@101.43. This was the best pass I ever ran in the car so I couldn't complain to much. http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fusea...deoid=39321808
Second race was a test and tune run and I was paired up with a very fast hatch back. This wasn't even close and he came out of the hole like a shotgun. His run netted him a 11.507@116.80 but I again bested myself with a 13.536@103.35.
Third race was nothing special but the first qualifier. I was paired up with a fairly stock 94GT and knew right away I was going to win unless I red lighted or spun forever. Like I had predicted I won but slowed up a bit with a 13.63@103.38 http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fusea...deoid=39321255
The second qualifier made me feel like the poor guy in the 94 as I was up against a very built N/A hatch. He killed me even worse than my first race as I am pretty sure he was able to hit the concession stand for a snack before I even hit the 330 mark. His time was a 9.913@136.61 to my all time best of 13.467@101.53. I am assuming a was able to catch almost zero drag as I moved along in his wake.
My last race was in the elimination round. I was elated to realize I was paired up with my friend Jack. He is a older guy with a Mach1 and has done really well for running the street class. He has run a best of 13.2 but he was running 13.4-13.6 last night. Our fastest times were within hundredths of each other. Well we approach the water box and he goes around. I tread on through as I have DRs on. I do my typical John Force burnout to get the tires heated up and he cleans his off with a quick blip. He fully stages as I took a bit longer and then I approach. This is where it goes all wrong. I went towards the staging beams and in a glorious lack of sense thought I tripped both beams fully(in reality I deep staged). I placed my car in reverse and to my horror the pro tree blinks yellow as I am going the opposite direction. I, like a man with palsy tried to no avail to switch it from reverse to first. Needless to say I congratulated Jack when we hit the return road and he thanked me for the "head start"
It was an awesome night for racing and I am pretty happy that even with my sportlines I am able to get my car to 13.4. With the 4cyl springs I should be good for some much lower 60 foots and in return much better ETs.
Thanks for the read and sorry it was so long.
P.S. Here is a quick video of my burnout. http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fusea...deoid=39320256

Lots of people here are interested in all kinds of racing. I've never owned any flavor of F-body but I've been a member here for a few days now.
Anyway, to the OP, I've found that my best timeslips have always come when I've raced a car that's clearly faster than I am. I don't know if it makes me drive better or I don't worry as much because I won't win anyway, but either way it's always been how it happens.

Just a bunch of fiends getting together and doing what they love to do best?! Nothing wrong with that. I wish I could find a but of car nuts who would do that. No clubs or get togethers where I'm at. You need a rematch with the Mach 1!!

There have been no changes to my car since last winter. I am hoping to get the headers in at the end of August and the springs at the same time.
I have a plenum, pullies, xpipe, catback and drag radials.
