Me vs SRT-4

Theres a '04 SRT-4 owner on a local board that claimed he hung within 1/2 a car of an LS1 from a roll. The car is stock but put down 236whp and ran a 13.8 at 101. I offered him a run with my LT1, which is about as fast as a stock LS1 from a roll. My car is just a stock 140k mile LT1 with shorty headers, O/R y-pipe, borla exhaust, MTI CAI, 1LE elbow, a TB airfoil, and some slight computer work.

First run we went from 50 roll. I had it in 2nd at about 4800rpm. We went on my move, I jumped out and hit my rev limiter, but shifted and kept going. We went to around 120 and he looked to be about 2-3 cars back. He later told me he was out of his rpm range and had difficulty shifting on that run.

Second time we went from a 30. I put it in 2nd not wanting to hit the rev limiter again which is about 3000-3500rpm, which isnt that great of place to start. I waited for his jump, he got about a fender, I started to pull and ended about a 1 1/2 to 2 cars ahead. Afterwards he claimed I was only 1/2 to 1 car ahead, yet I could see both his headlights in my rear view mirror. Im guessing he meant from my bumper.

The final run we went from a stop. I half throttled it out of the hole trying to get traction, I jumped out a car, he caught traction and gained 1/2 a car back. Around that point I started to catch traction and floored and started to pull away. We only went up to 80-90 because of a turn but I ended but 1-2 cars ahead.

The guy turned out to be really cool. We talked for a while and he also owns an 89 Iroc. I have to admit the car was pretty quick. I would guess so with around 260hp in a 2900-3000lb car from the factory.

nice races...guess he was exagerating a bit talking about hanging with an ls1...

i'd be willing to bet an ls1 from a 70-120 roll would destroy him...spooled up or not! 3rd gear at 70 ---->95ish, and one quick simple shift to 4th and just pedal down!

GOODBYE

"Claimed" is right, if he is only trapping 101. Unless it was a pre '01 LS1 automatic vert. loaded down with people and gear, a sick LS1, or a crappy driver.

I cannot keep up with stock LS1s on the highway. I typically gain 3 cars or more from LT1s on a 60-110 roll.

I think his claims may have been a bit stretched. He posted the race on another board and said he was within half a car. Yet I could see BOTH headlights in my rearview mirror every race. Im guessing he meant from my bumper and even thats a stretch.

Im about even with an LS1 from a roll. Ill slowly pull an auto LS1, and the one stock M6 '01 Ive raced slowly pulled away.

His car was definitely quick for stock and he was a cool guy. Id like to race one from a stop when I get better tires. I dont think the results will be as close.

Well a lot of SRT owners seem to exaggerate their wins, claiming LS1s are nothing, etc.- nothing against the ones that know what they're talking about of course.

They're definitely quick cars, not to be underestimated. But I don't think I would want one, I just don't like the neon look. id much rather pay over twice as much for one of them new vettes. yum.

I still have yet to run one. Everyone around here wants to race, so just getting to the stoplight first is like a victory. I'm sick and tired of having every single Honda owner line up with me and give me "the look". I want to race a real car already.

SRT-4's are good for about 102MPH's in the 1/4 stock which is worth about 1 1/2-2 carlengths over a stock LT1). Him hangin with an LS1 is completely believeable if he hung with you decently and who knows, maybe the LS1 driver he raced sucks? Also to teke184 how the hell is an LS1 gonna just straight runaway from the Neon if the creator of this post already has a car that can hang with LS1's and though he beat him pretty good,he didnt destroy him. Good kill either way.

beware, mods on a srt-4 are no joke. A wastegate actuator is only $150 and holds 15psi to redline, good for 3 tenths in the quarter mile. Stage 1 mod by the dodge dealer is only $500 and adds bigger injectors and a reprogrammed ecu good for 20whp throughout the powerband. Low 13's are easy on these cars, and they thrive on racing from a big roll.

It's more like 15 rwhp. That's not that good of deal for $500, especially on a turbo car.

It adds power throughout the whole rev-band. It's generally good for a half second reduction in the 1/4 mile times. That's DAMN good for the 369 bucks you pay. (not 500)
