Although I do agree with getting a CAI and Headers. Both are great bolt on mods. LPE has a great CAI for a low cost. 12rwhp on a stock LT1. I got my headers used for cheap too, best way to buy them. Good luck.99-04 GT's are beast! One with 4.10's and Flowmasters ran all of 14.3 at the track when I ran 14.2 stock. Impressive for being 10 years younger than my car and modded. Frankly they arent too lethal. They'll give a broken LT1 or strong 3.8 a run for its money though
Get some more bolt on's an leave GT's even further in the dust then they are from the factory.-Dustin-

Re: Lt1 Vs 99+Gt
LOL the mustang had a 'slight edge'? rofl.
my step dad just ran a M5 2004 GT in his 97 Z28 A4 tonight
All he's got done is the hypertech III, 160 degree therm., and flowmasters.
The mustang definitly had an exhaust b/c i was in the car with my step dad. We completely smoked the stang and left he behind by like a car or 2..
The edge my ***. Almost stock A4 LT1 vs a M5 04 Stang.. Chevy > Ford

i dont know which ones you are racing..but ill tell you about my 95 trans am a4 and my twins 99gt 5 speed..ok lemme start that the same week he got the car he brought it to the track.. ran 14.0's all night at 97-98..now he has 410 gears, catback cai, pullyes, i think thats it..he dynoed at 238 rwhp and 285 rwtq.. i did bone stock 243rwhp and 285rwtq with 87 oct gas and a missfire..but everytime we race its a damn good race..sometimes me, somtimes his..maybe if my car was running right lol.. but dont underestimate them..some drivers get them 13.8ish stock..seen it too..stock the m5 dyno at 225ish and auto's are like 220..belive..i am really knowdelegable "sp" about mustangs...then i got smart, lol with my fbody..and if you only beat a 98 by that much?? 96-98 are the slowest years..run 14.5-15.2..maybe it was a cobra? or what i did with my 97 gt.. i put heads cams and intake from a 99 up gt and had a beast of a car..bumped the cr up to 10.5:1 too.. i played with none ls6 intake ls1's
..but then it started to knock and ping and got rid of it lol....

..but then it started to knock and ping and got rid of it lol....First of all you need to read the thread...he wasn't talking about racing a 96-98 car. It said 99+...secondly i for sure don't believe any mustang(excluding the new ones of course)could touch 13's in stock form. Stock rwhp and tq for a SOHC 4.6L 99-04 are about 205-210 rwhp and around 235 rwtq. Sorry just isn't happening. I'm sure you're right though, with a few mods(heads, cams, intake, etc.) they can be pretty quick cars. But not for one second do i believe a stock 99-04 GT would hit a 13. And yes...the only reason your twin is any where near you would be because your car is broken. Don't mean to bash you man just think you need to get your info. right.
Re: Lt1 Vs 99+Gt
i can post his dyno.. and i will send numerous of posts on www.corral.net a mustang form..and take pics of articles in mustang mags..belive me man..those numbers are more like 5.0s that you are saying.. and 96-98 usally dyno at 190ish 260lbs.. it is just the truth...those new edge 4.6's 99+ are quick cars...and they do dyno at 220ish stock and 270ish tq...sorry if you dont not belive me..

Please understand that a 99+ GT running bone stock 13.x is the exception and not the rule - but it has been done on more than one occasion by several drivers. Of course, 96-01 Cobra's do it all the time, but that is another issue.

Of note, and after all that, it is my opinion that the LT1 does have a bit of an advantage (stock to stock) over the 99+ GT (everything else being equal). Certainly they are close enough that the driver can make all the difference.
Re: Lt1 Vs 99+Gt
thank you for clerifing that up for me bob..those cars are equivlent to a lt1..may make a little less power but the wheight and gearing ratio makes up for that "327 factory" 5 speed.. the gt's usally will edge outon a lt1 a4 against a 5 speed 99 up gt..but once you start modding the lt1 its a different story
i mean a4 with 273 lol for the lt1's

Re: Lt1 Vs 99+Gt
All I know is that stock to stock, lightly modded to lightly modded, all of the encounters that I have come across between me and a 99+ GT has resulted in my win. This was vs autos and m5's good and bad drivers. One was versus my friend and his 02 GT m5, he had a full exhaust, intake, steeda tri-ax, superchip, pullies and 4.10's. we ran and I got him by 1/2 a car. And this was with my car only having a Flowmaster, tbb and a K&N filter with 140ish K miles. And I know for a fact that he can drive. Now it seems my car runs a little well for whats done to it but i guess I just got lucky when bought it.

Several people have done it (best I can vouch for is a 2002 running 13.7 @ 101 mph....was at E-town when it happened).

That is incorrect. A stock 99+ GT will typically dyno ~220 RWHP. For evidence, please see the following:

In the rights hands the cars perform very similar, the LT1 is more driver friendly hence seeing a majority of better times outta them..Same arguments are w/ the pre 03 Cobra the LT1 and the GT about all being "equal". In skilled hands the dohc will walk either everytime. IMO the LT1 gets the edge over the GT, one from driving both, racing against 2v's, and being at quite a few ford vs. chevys @ Etown

Thanks for the info though i'll be sure to be a lot more thorough in my research.

Re: Lt1 Vs 99+Gt
Here in AZ at speedword (better than firebird raceway) 5.0's and 96-98 GT's and Cobra's run anywhere from 14.8-15.4 @ 93-96ish. I raced a 2005 GT with intake and exhaust m5, he ran 14.4 at 98 with a 2.0 60'...I cut a 2.3 60' and ran 14.0 @ 102. I ran identical times against a 2000 GT m5 with exhaust, intake, 4.10's and nittos....needless to say he ran a 14.3 @ 98. I remember all this cause I just went to the track a few nights ago
Racing at sea level must make a huge difference cause at 1200ft elevation not even a 2005 GT with mods will hit 13's
