I saw a 99+ mustang gt doing a burnout in the parking lot so me and my friends go over and ask him if he wants to run, and he's like you don't want any of this boy, and he says he has to go take someone home real quick. So he comes back and i'm like you wanna run them and he's like what you got done, i'm like exhaust the rest is stock he's like no it isn't i hear a cam in there, so i started playing with him he's like pop your hood and i'm like no let's just run them just to make it seem like i had stuff. Anyways to make a story short i kept playing around with him and he wouldn't race because he thought i had something done, half my friends are like ya it's stock while the other half are telling him that i have a bunch of stuff done, the were were trying to see through my hatch looking for a nitrous tank, half the time i would just bust out laughing at the things they said. Anyways it was a 99+ Gt Convertable and i'm curious how good of a race it would have been? I think the gt's have the slight edge? By next week I should have my Pcm tuned and maybe a cai, do you think i could hold my own with him then?

the coupes are a real good run for an lt1 with your mods but id say if the vert was stock youd prolly win because i think theyre significantly heavier i dunno for sure though

A stock 5spd GT hardtop will usually win over an A-4 LT-1 but lose to a 6spd, at least in my experience with them.

 

I beat a 03-04 GT with Flowmasters and 4.10's with just GMMG exhaust. I dont think they are that scary, but it always comes down to the driver mod.

Well if that's true, his gt was an auto and i have m6 so i probably would have had a better chance then i thought. Win or not i was wanting to run them for fun but it was so funny playin with him and his friends and listening to them guess at what my car had done to it.

 

Don't believe that bs about a 99-04 gt being a drivers race against a good running lt1, i used to think that from reading this board untill i raced them and constantly beat them by at least four cars on avarage.

 

You are making as much or more wheel power then they are rated at...and they weigh more. Just don't spin like crazy and you should have it.

 

Gts do not have a slight edge, especially verts.....Stock he probably runs mid to high 14's, definately not scary...Think the kid knew he would have got whopped hence him not wanting to race you. A cams definately not difficult to notice on a LT1, and if he mistaken a loud exhaust forone hes clueless.

Stock for stock they are a very close race. You must have run a stock one with your mods.

 

I don't buy that for one second...when i first got my car a year and a half ago i raced my friend in an '01 gt and raped him. And i'm A4, and he wasn't stock. Then a few weeks later he got a chip and i still beat him by a car and a half. Stock for stock goes to an LT1 hands down. Of course you could really screw up and not know how to drive very well or something, but in my experience no LT1 should have much of a problem unless the GT has substantial work done on it.

 

Don't waste money on a PCM tune unless you have gears, or top end work done. I would buy a CAI, and start saving for some headers. IMHO, Headers are the number 1 bang for the buck bolt on (Outisde of Nitrous ) for the LT1 .

 

When my car was stock I ran one I think it was a 98 though we went from a 10mph roll and I only beat him by about a car length if that..I couldn't pull him for nothing.

 

Not really. I've driven my dad's two LT1s thousands of miles and raced them against a lot of different cars over the years. From my experience, the GT and the LT1 is a great race in the 1/4 mile, after that it is all LT1 stock for stock.
