LT1 and TT Supra

A few years back I had a TT Supra come up next to me and motion to race. So, we did. It was from a roll at about 40 and he walked off and left me. My car was still bone stock (2.73's). I have heard from several people he has done alot to his car, but I still was bothered by getting beat by a 6 banger. I had never seen this guy around since that day until yesterday. My car is far from stock now. We just so happened to be at a red light. We took off and I smoked his a$$. He wanted to do it again, but start off at about 60. So, we did. I didn't pull on him as hard as I thought I would, but I beat him pretty good. He was a good sport about it. He gave me a thumbs up when I started pulling away from him.

So what have you added since the first encounter? They trap 104-106 mph stock, like a healthy LS1. All they need is exhaust and a boost controller to bump that up to 114-117 mph though.

He probably didn't have as much done as people were saying.
On my buddy's 95 Supra TT auto with only an RMM Downpipe, BCC, and T-Bleeder Mod, I was trapping 118mph and only running 12.8 since it was a dog off the line.
On the highway from a 60 roll it was like a rocket.
did a 60-170mph race against my brother in his full bolt on 96 Trans Am (13.2 @ 106mph car) and by the time I hit 150 I was bus lengths ahead, and I slowed up at 170 since we were coming up to our exit.
At 170, it was still pulling too.

Ya, way too heavy, 3890lbs with no driver and no spare in a 96 VR4.
Nice and quick to 140ish but 140-160 takes foreeeeeeever.

It's pretty much safe to say that 99.99999% of my driving has been below 140 mph.

I weigh 290 lbs and my car was 4035-4070 on the scales depending on how much gas was in it. It ran the 12.50s in my sig (videos on website) on the stock turbos and stock cat-back. The basic mods were fuel (injectors, fuel controller) and a downpipe. That isn't too shabby in my book.

Since I sold mine, it has become quite easy to bolt on a pair of TD05 turbos (stock DSM or Evo turbos) and the result is a 10-sec car. They went from having like two 10-sec 3S cars for a decade to having more than a dozen in a single year, with 3-4 of 'em in the 9s. 11.0s and 125+ mph on pump gas is the norm for those cars, and the cost of doing so is a third of what it used to be.

FWIW, I was in a group buy for adapter plates to put the TD05's on stock manifolds before the TD05 headers were ever conceived. The buy went under and I was out over $1200 and sold the car soon after.

One ride in a 3S with larger-than-stock turbos will prove that they have no issues over 140 with the right hairdryers. Have you ever seen their stock turbos? They're so small you'll actually laugh -- they're like sample turbos to be used for a scale model or something. What gives them their great low-end torque (rated for 330 tq at like 1800 rpm) also causes power to drop off up top.

I was always happy to drive an underestimated car though. It made it that much more surprising when I handed people their asses in my "souped up Avenger."

John, I still keep my eyes out for the 3S cars. Still hold a soft spot in my heart. I didn't know they finally did the headers though. What is the cost on them? I guess I need to check in on the forum more often. Also, how is the leggy comin?

The Legacy has been on jackstands for 3 months now, waiting on another group buy -- you'd think I'd have learned my lesson! I should finally receive the downpipe this week and may actually be able to drive my car again.

With the exhaust tweaks plus the DIY ECU tuning, I'm expecting to take almost a full sec off the ol' timeslip which should make it a lot more fun to drive.

I don't know what the 3S headers are going for but everybody and his uncle seems to have a set now. It seems like a third of their owners now have 16g's or bigger under the hood.
