LT1 beats LS1

What the hell, ill throw this one out for everyones enjoyment. I was on my way to tint my windows and saw a Camaro at the stop light as i was turning. So i waited a bit and he caught up to me, red LS1 Z28, 6 spd, had intake and loudmouth. We went back and forth a bit on a road where traffic was kinda heavy, but finally made it to a highway. He made the turn ahead of me and i got just about even when we hit it. I had pulled probably 2-3 cars by 80-85 and then i stopped. We talked for a minute thats how i knew what he had, couple of young kids probably just got the car, then i turned around and went back to where i was goin. Only thing i wasnt too thrilled with was the passenger was video taping the race. I dont think he got the result he was hoping for when he pulled the camera.

He has 410s...then bolt ons, he shouldn't have needed to spray. He's right in LS1 country. Nice job!

Didnt spray, didnt need to. If i had I would have had him by a whole lot more then a few cars. C'mon, with the mods i have give my car a little more credit then that.

Yea unfortunatly not yet. This thing puts out some pretty good power for the **** manifolds it came with from the factory. Im tryin to wait until i start doin the top end of the motor to kind of make it kinda easier and do them along with the work on the motor. I kinda doubt im gonna wait too much longer though.

Headers will help you out so much, plus you'll get a couple more MPG too. Definately worth the cash.

Yea ur definitly right, my car flows pretty well without so i can imagine how much they will help. Im still tryin to decide on longtubes vs shorties. And plus its such a bitch of a job to undertake im kinda procrastinating on it.

Not taking anything away from him but like the other guys have said he has no headers...so your tryin to tell me if he took it into the higher rpms (higher then 80-85 when they stopped ) a 6spd LS1 wouldnt take him...How much rwhp do you have? I can gaurantee its no where near a 6spd w/ a lid n loudmouth.

Scan my mods list again, I can only say from having raced LS1 SS' and seeing how hard they pull over 110 that with the mods i have on my car he would not have caught me. I know this for fact, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Oh and ive never had it dynoed, dyno numbers dont impress me that much. But i would put pink slips up against an LS1 with a lid and LM without thinking twice.

Re: LT1 beats LS1

I can see this being close but with your 4.10 and nitto combo you would rule an ls1 on stock tires off the line for sure.As for roll ons they would really only be meaningful if both cars are in the same gear.Obviously if this guy was in third and you second or him fourth or fifth and you third it makes a big diff.

Thats why full quartermile races would be more telling.I have both cars and like both cars.I had a 97 ta with 4 .10 gears and similar mods but never could hook the gears up on street tires.Ls1s are not god.Basic bolts ons on a lt1 can catch up to a nearly stock ls1 pretty easily. But the ls1 put out sic power these days with things like new afr heads, lsx intakes, some of the newer cam grinds and good long tubes.Well over the 440 rwhp range even on stock displacements.Am personally waiting to watch race between buddies
newly done lt1 383 stroker with decent parts and buddies 413 rwhp heads, cam, longtube ls1.Should be a good one.383 guy has a 250 shot of spray too so of course with that the lt1 should smoke the ls1 really bad.
Unless my ls1 buddy does more mods this winter.

My 99 is pretty heavy and pretty slow and only has cam and bolt ons.Took off my long tubes didn't like the noise or reduced ground clearance.I only get around a 13.7 or so at our altitude with like a 2.20 60ft.

My lt1 vert with very mild mods..3.42 gears and magnaflow and air induction,tb bypass, airfoil little stuff ran 14.3 at 95 with a 2.18 60ft.Auto.
So its only 5 tenths from my six speed ls1.
And this year have ready for install a new asp underdrive balancer ,1.6 rr and 2800 vig stall.I think my vert should be faster than my ls1 this year if dont' do any rad stuff to my ls1.Our track is 1900 feet above sea level and desity air is usally much higher.

Both great engines and cars.LOVE EM BOTH!!

Re: LT1 beats LS1

OK, seeing how we started from just coming out of a turn, we were both in first, i had my window down right beside him and could tell what gear he was in starting off at because of how long he stayed in it before shifting. So we were both in the same gear. If he was a gear or two higher then me this would not even have been close. You think much to high of an LS1 over the LT1 with the mods i have. Either way yall can debate it all you want.
