You are forgetting that the ZR1 came out in 1991.

As Ray86IROC stated "They're faster than a LS1 Vette stock for stock, rode along in my Buddy's 01 Vette as he lost by couple car lengths against a stock ZR1 several times"

A couple of car lenghts on a LS1 vette in a STOCK ZR1 is damn impressive, especially by 1991 "standards". To John Gloyd honestly I am surprised it did not pull the paint off your car as speeds increased. The DOHC are not real torquey down low especially compared to the LT1, they are top end monsters, so I am shocked he got you down low and then you held it. I can see you running with him down low, but as the top of third/going into fourth, say bye-bye, because it is going to be all ZR1. Not trying to flame, just the way I see it, so good runs.

I think some people forget what was considered "fast" in 1991. Anything approaching 200 hp was fast and 300hp was the holy grail. If a car trapped 100 mph off the showroom it was screaming.

The ZR1 came along with unheard of speed for a factory car. Then you could mod it for some real power. I'm not a fan of the C4 (love the look; hate most of the quality) but I could be talked into owning a ZR1.

Yea, when the Lt1 came out in 92 that was the engine touched by god lol...gave the 5.0 some grief...So the LT5 was a supercar.

Ok, I was wrong the ZR1 came out in 1990. Either way a "mild cammed" z28 is not going to touch a ZR1. Even with the LT4 hot cam the ZR1 is gone especiall from 100+. I mean with the LT4 hot cam and ported heads, you are only postponing the obvious, death.

Re: Lost To an old corvette

So reading all your posts, I have to conclude that this guy either could not drive or something was wrong with his car. My Z is ok and has taken down almost everything it has been challenged by but your right, it's not in the ZR1 class and I did stop this guys pull at the top of fourth. Maby those 40th ZR1 badges did not come on this car but were placed there by mistake. I'm not saying anyone would intentionally re-badge their car, but it could have been an accident.

I think if I were you, I'd hope it was a real ZR1, and not just another old 'vette that took you.

.....or if you were "gaining" on him, he was starting to back off at that point??

I raced a ZR1 at the track a couple summers ago ... had no idea it was a ZR1 'til he slaughtered me!!! His car ran something like ~12.20!? (yeah, a mid 13-second car is gonna be a REAL threat, eh?!).

I remember reading an article about the ZR1 vs. the '01 Z06 (385 HP year) and the Z06 beat the ZR1 (not by a lot, but it did win).

So I guess the pecking order is this: LS7 > LS6 > LT5 > LS1 > LT4 > LT1. Oh, and the LS2? It probably falls somewhere between LS6 & LT5?

Re: Lost To an old corvette

I've seen traps as high as 114mph bone stock out of ZR1's. They Seem to be hit or miss. Some dont go higher than 109 and others will run into the low teens all day long. Probbaly due to the tolerances in the all hand built motors. I would LOVE to have a ZR1, its always been a dream car of mine. I WILL own one someday.
