Lost To an old corvette

I was on my way home from work yesterday and noticed this older corvette riding my but. Every time I would speed up, he would also. We finally got close to town and had to stop at a red light, this allowed him to pull up along side me and I see it's a 93 40th anniversary ZR-1. He gives a few revs and his car sounds great, the light goes green and we are off. I get the jump but he catches and passes me. Up to fourth he put about 2 cars on me but I stopped his pull at the top of fourth but could not make up the lost ground. I was somewhat dissapointed in my car because it was only a 93 corvette and I should have done better.

Re: Lost To an old corvette

Well considering you said it was a ZR-1 Vette, He should have layed the smackdown on you as he did..with the 32 Valve LT5, pushing nearly 400hp, that vette should have pulled on you the way he did

Zr-1's are Rare cars, so dont be disappointed you got ur a$$ handed to you

No shame in losing to a LT5 with only bolt on's. Sounds like he had a few too. Someday I will own a ZR1

Re: Lost To an old corvette

This is the second time I have been taken down by a corvette, this past summer a 05 Z06 made me re-think my starting gear selection, for a moment I thought I was in reverse Guess I need more mods because I didn't win that one either

What camshaft do you have, I completely overlooked that. With a cam and the right mods you should have given that ZR1 a look and maybe even the Z06.

Re: Lost To an old corvette

I'm not sure what kind of cam is in the car. However, it is a mild cam. The guy that had the car before me put most of the mods on including the cam. I tried to get in touch with him before he went to Iraq but no luck and he did not make it back alive. I did talk to some of his hotrod buddies, they remember he put in some kind of cam but didn't know what kind. For all I know it is stock but it doesn't sound or feel stock and has a lot of mid range power. I have a new LT4 hot cam and am saving for the gasket set to put it in.

ZR1 is no joke, LT1 would need alot to hang...no shame in that lose. Before the z06's came about they were the top vette's

Re: Lost To an old corvette

They're faster than a LS1 Vette stock for stock, rode along in my Buddy's 01 Vette as he lost by couple car lengths against a stock ZR1 several times. Even if it wasn't a ZR1 he would have had the same LT1 starting point as you, why would you figure it's just a "old" 93??

Re: Lost To an old corvette

I figured a 93 shouldn't be much because my neighbor has a 94 and I had no problem with dealing him a loosing hand. Granted his is not a ZR1 just a plain LT1. So now I have 3 losses under my belt, the Z06, the ZR1 and last winter the 03 Cobra that smoked me worse than the Z06. MODS, I NEED MORE MODS.

ZR1's trap at 110 mph easily, and they just keep pulling from there. They're nothing like your average C4.

Good run...no shame in a loss to that beast.

My friends pop has a red one sitting in his garage with only 934 miles on the odometer.

Re: Lost To an old corvette

no z06 in 05 and as far as the zr1 :car 30,000 dollars, engine 35,000 dollars = holy **** that a lot of money on the sticker for a car thats only marginaly faster than the ls1. saw one at a car show and the guy had the original sticker and thought the motor option was the price of the car!
