Grr..

Friday night I was out with my wife and a friend at the movies. As we were leaving we saw/ heard a pretty beefy sounding fox body sporting a window sticker for a well known local Ford performance place. I've been going easy on the car since my ignition system has ben breaking up around 5000 RPMs lately (Opti), but I got a wild hair and followed him out of the parking lot.

I pulled in behind him at a left turn onto a 3 lane main road. The light turned green and he turned into the left lane and floored it. I turned out into the middle lane and followed suit. He started out with about a car length on me, but I was reeling him in pretty fast. Right when my nose gets to his door he HITS THE BRAKES and I sail past him. There's still about 1/8-1/4 mile to the next light. I back off and meet him at the light. He's got a guy in the passenger seat. I tell him his car sounds pretty good, and he says "Yeah, it goes alright."

Light turns green and I motion to give him the jump. He takes it and I hit the gas when he's about halfway through the intersection. Here I come, short shifting as I go. This time I get to his front fender before he shuts it down again with plenty of road still left. WTF? At least let me have my win before you give up.

Pretty stupid I know, but it kinda torqued me anyway.

Maybe he has no top-end and won't race past 60mph. good runs though.

I would typically wait until they were past, but I'd drop out at reasonable speed if they were catching well- for a long time my Stealth didn't have a great top end- so you catch up by 80 and there wasn't any reason to stay in it!

This guy sounds like more of a jerk, but if you are racing and the other guy clearly is winning, why push it farther?
