Gotta Be BS

What would you say if a friend told you this story...

I hit a red light and a friend of my pulled up beside me in a new dodge hemi and... and... and... I started reving my engine. We both started laughing, 'cus we knew who would win!

When it turned green we started racing and... and... and... when we were about 20 ft out, I looked in my rearview mirror and seen he was a car length behind me!

Later he pulled over and said, "Man that car is fast! I was giving it all it had!" I didn't wanna tell him I wasnt.

... He has an '83 Z28 with a stock 305, no mods other than a holley carb intake ...

Re: Gotta Be BS

I honestly believe that the 305 can takeout a HEMI in one of those overweight pigs. They have the power, but nothing else there to make it fast.

Re: Gotta Be BS

I think that a 305 can take the hemi too, but he said he was a car length ahead of him in 20ft, without getting on it all the way. If you do some math, a car length is about 12ft... so he was going about twice as fast? Gimmie a break...

Re: Gotta Be BS

I watched an idiot race his hemi truck at an 1/8 mile track the other night, and I mean idiot. People were yelling for him to go home. He'b burn out his street tires in the water box and then burnout halfway up the track, put it in reverse and then line up. He had a ton of rubber buildup on his fender from doing all this. Okay nuh about him being an idiot. He ran a consistent 9.5 to 10.0 1/8th all night. So go from there on the 305 beating his friend.

It was probably more than 20 feet. Its hard to tell how many feet you've actually moved when your nailing the gas. A little exaggeration YEAH, a win Probably

Re: Gotta Be BS

Those Hemi trucks are actually faster then people think, especially the ones that don't have 4WD, the towing package, and all that other extra junk. Example, one guy I know with his new Hemi-equipped truck raced my g/fs uncle in his Grand Prix GTP. The truck edged him out repeatedly and the GTP is a mid 14 to 15 flat second car on average.

Re: Gotta Be BS

my dad ran his quad cab hemi 4by w/tow pac. and hit 15.3 (not sure of the mph), with an exhuast and the mopar "chip"...

for the record he has/had a few other "toys" that are much faster, but he lost his ability to shift due to cancer and this was something he did just for shyts and giggles... so the hemi's can move a bit

http://motortrend.com/roadtests/pick...ux/index5.html

Motortrend did a test on a 2wd reg cab long box HEMI vs a extended cab AWD chev SS. Both are rated at 345HP, and most people including me would think that a 2wd vs AWD in a truck, the 2wd would win. This is NOT the case here The hemi is only trapping 89mph in the 1/4 so I would hope a 305 HO can do that too, but I've never ran one before If you notice, the chev is also 500lbs heavier than the Snodge

Re: Gotta Be BS

omg those trucks run unleaded premium and they are getting like 13mpg. Screeewww that. If im gonna be gettin' 13 mpg I'd better be running 11s.

On second thought girls round' these parts love them big trucks.

Re: Gotta Be BS

My "road warrior" 92 truck isn't getting better than 13-14 mpg and I still love it. At least its' regular and not premium tho. That'll change if I ever give in & buy the blower kit.

Re: Gotta Be BS

At our track the near stock 305 have a very hard time breaking under the 15s. We are at 1700 feet. The hemi trucks I think are also around mid 15s. Most near stock lt1s
manage mid 14s to low 14s depending on tires. Most ls1 are mid to high 13s .So hemi trucks might be good run for a 305 or even 350 near stock third gen. Also on the highway at faster speeds pretty sure the trucks have major disadvantage from wind resistance and they are pretty heavy. The 4 by 4 trucks have advantage off the line and can turn some good 60fts the 2wd have less power drain and lighter so a bit of advantage top end and roll ons.
But it takes a lot to make a big heavy truck fast. Buddy has a built 6.0 4 by 4 with guessing 450 hp or so and it ran
14.3 at 96mph think it was forget the mph and might hit a high 13. Again not much match for most fourth gen lt1 or ls1 with mild mods and decent tires.Aren't the srt 10 trucks usually mid 13s?

Re: Gotta Be BS

Wait, when you say "Dodge Hemi", are you talking about a Ram, or a Charger?

Chargers are in solid stock LT1 territory. I have no idea about the trucks.

Oh yeah, and Camaros are almost 17 feet long (4th gens... don't know about other generations). 12-foot cars are TINY.
