Got pulled by a stock C5...WTF???

Ok Guys,

Notice the Top end package in my sig? Its sitting here in the floor at my house waiting to be installed.

Ok,
Im on the way home today from work and a Black C5 pulls next to me and this guy wants to kick it off from a 45 mile roll. I couldnt get into my powerband and downshift like I wanted and he would gently pull 1-2 cars on me to 95 mph. The second time I got it good in my band and got the jump on him and again he started to creep by again!!!!!
It was not a complete *** dragging , but you could tell who had more ummpph.
I know that I only have the Lid and Loudmouth as my two power adders , but thought I would at least hold with him.

Also I have run high 12s with the mods in my sig (other than H/C)
That is probably contributed to my suspension and radials which didnt help a damn lick from a roll.

I cant wait to get this stuff bolted on and maybe I can get some respect around here...lol

Just wanted to share my scuffle with you.

You probably just ran into one of the strong running C5s that run higher traps around 109ish bone stock. Just like there are lemon and freak F-Bodys. I wouldn't worry about it too much, there's just as good a chance you'll pull a another stock C5 next time.

What's that Top End Package all about?

Thanks man,

The Top End Package is my LS6 Heads and Comp cam that I recieved from www.forcefedhighperformance.com
I just have not had the money for an install and I dont have a shop of my own to work in.
Im shooting for the first week in Feb (tax money) and then I should be 60-80 hp stronger.

Tough loss Mike! I'd say that's about right though. They are lighter and have better aerodynamics, nothing a heads and cam setup can't take care of and then some

Yeah, when you're going from a roll, you've gotta look at trap speed more than ET. A good running C5 shouldn't have any trouble trapping 108-109 stock so going by your 106, him pulling one or two car's on you sounds about right. From a dig, you probably would've had a pretty good shot at beating him.

Its all good. Better luck next time. Funny that I raced a C5 last week and he jumped a car on me from a 60mph roll and I reeled him in then put a car on him. Cam and heads will definately help you win next time.

My friend ran 12.86 @ 108.9 in a stock 03 M6 Vert!

The Corvettes should be faster, because they are lighter, have more weight over the rear wheels, and are *should* have a few more ponies under the hood, but not much.

What is really embarrasing is a friend of mine had a mid 12 second N/A Mustang. He turbocharged it and it vaporlocked within a minute of starting (way too much fuel, from the FMU working wrong).
So he bought a used 5.0 block, and put new gaskets in it (stock 170k bottom end though) and put it all back togeather.

Then he gives it a bit of breakin, and managed to steal a race with a C5 corvette...and lost! He thinks it was stock, but I think it was just a sleeper (modded, but still quiet). Still I feel sorry for him...
We'll have to see what the car runs next spring.
