The '95-up DSM's are a little heavier than the '90-94's, I believe. My '93 Talon TSi AWD ran 14.4@92 stock (note the low trap speed). By comparison, my Camaro ran 14.0@100 when it was stock, on the crappy original RS-A's, at the same track.

This is the same talon as in the video, but with four pounds more boost after he had it tuned.
My car was at 480rwhp at this time (much more now, muhahahaha), I have traction issues as I'm running kumho mx 295/35/18 street rubber.
The talon can launch HARD on the street.

Re: Eclipse tsi vs. Viper
Stock 2nd gen dsms are slow. I have one and tazzoed an auto turbo awd before I bought my current one. At bone stock boost the auto was running 16s and my 5 speed turbo awd had to struggle to run low 15s.
But you have to watch what you mean by stock. Stock turbo is one thing but stock boost another. With simply upping the boost you can get them to run close to a stock lt1 or even faster than a stock lt1 if you do a few more supporting mods, better fuel pump, exhaust,intake...race gas..Some are running faster than stock ls1s on the stock turbo with the right mods.
Think record is 11s but that might be on spray.
Also just because you beat a modified turbo car one race don't mean nothing if he can simply up his boost and run you again.
Raced buddies old subaru and smoked it terrible at first but he kept raising boost and each run he got closer and closer to my NA old 80 TA. He had severe traction problems in his fwd on street tires but on the highway at higher boost I could not run him down once we took his crazy wheelspin out of the equation.
Turbo cars are unpredictable and can be huge diff running one on pump gas and then running it on race gas.
Don't get me wrong ,usually a v8 with big power adder like supercharger or nitrous or heads/cam/headers and or nitrous will take most turbo
dsms. It should it has more displacement. But fastest car at our local import shootout was a 1st gen talon running 11.8 at 126mph with like 2.0 60fts.That one was fwd on drag tires.Another one awd was running simliar mph and third one was like 12.5 at 113 or something.
There were three highly modified non race car f bodies there. A full done heads/cam/headers third gen on et streets managing bests of
12.2 that day at 114 mph or so , a 413 rwhp 99 SS running also low 12s but on nittos at 115 or 116..A 420 rwhp 98 ls1 heads/cam/headers running not good times at all forget but think just broke into the 12s at around 115mph but he was on street tires not drags.
I would have liked to see the car in the video there to run the fast dsms it should have been interesting race. One of the few cars to run close to the dsm for mph was a twin turbo big block 2nd gen that had massive wheelspin problems and was running 130mph and forget times but not great considering he had like 1000 or more hp!!!! Buick grand national highly modded was also on street tires and getting some high elevens but at only around 119mph ,he was trying not to go under 11.5 I think though and thus get out of having no rollbar. But that 126mph shows I think 10 second potential for the dsm with a 1.6 or 1.7 launch possible pretty easily on awd dsms even on street tires.
Not sure what turbo is in the above talon but he may have potential to get a lot more hp out of it and come a lot closer to the camaro in future runs.
A supercharged car is also limited in boost by the pulley on it , of course you can swap the pulley but on turbo you just dial up the boost. Much simpler and easer to do.And turbo swaps to bigger more powerful turbos can be done in few hours if things go right.Course you need retuning and maybe bigger injectors, etc to go up in turbo size. Its not totally plug and play.
I look forward to seeing some rematching and maybe get a chance to play with that camaro as its fairly local to me. I expect to lose of course depending on what I run him with and have to say the camaro is a very nice very fast car. Hope he brings it down to our local track to really see what it can do.

. From a roll anyways, a kid on a skateboard can beat my 60 foot times
Awd anything has the advantage at SIR. I've been told it's one of the poorest prepped tracks in alberta/saskatchewan.
The talon is running a t3/4 60 trim, it's currently out of commission until the owner can afford the sheppard racing transmission.
He's got all the stuff to go low 11s, but is having a hard time getting everything to work at the same time, something or other always acts up or breaks.
Re: Eclipse tsi vs. Viper
Now,now the sts car is not mine .And its not set up for drag type racing with
no stall and street tires. And he might not put the right money into support mods to get it running at 12psi or so where it has to be to be at like 600
rwhp according to sts site.
Perosonally not sure any of my car will ever be worthy match for you pwrmad.
The 96 will have its zex wet on shortly and by next spring should have my
comp 305 and 1.6 rockers isntalled along with planned LE2 heads and mac
headers.
The talon going big stuff bigger than that car in video . Expect to have to buy
tranny and stuff like that also.
The 99 trans am is going turbo just havne't decided on single or twin and that one will be set up for minimum 500 plus rwhp. Of course talk is cheap..
But of course the old rule there is always someone faster still applies.

Re: Eclipse tsi vs. Viper
I've always had a hard time not being competitive with stuff like this
.
I still haven't decided if I'm going to just stay with my current setup or go with a maximum effort ptk build-up this winter, a certain ptk turbo 'stang (pt76), out of calgary, will make up my mind for me when we race next month. It should be a good race, I've got more peak hp, but he's got more under the curve. Going to go from a 130 km/hr punch.
I like the zex wet kit I just put on, nice and compact, simple wiring. No window switch with the kit though.

Re: Eclipse tsi vs. Viper
I go that new msd window switch for my vert.
It will be interesting to see which is faster you or turbo but as I said turbo cars just up the boost a bit more and get faster you have to mess with pullys and stuff. Both are neat..
I am looking hard at turbo kit for the 99 and don't worry it will be a front mount like a ptk also ,hear the one company is redoing the incon kits..
Single turbo is nice but still like the sound of twin turbo personally.
Are you and any of your buddies going to SIR this year. I know the track can be crappy but its ok if you run drag tires ,nittos aren't that good on it really.
I would like to see your car run and a few of your buddies cars..
And yeah its the nature of us guys to be competitive..Maybe we can have
a fourth gen hp war going but I want to finish off the vert and get the talon
on the road before doing up the 99 trans am to the moon.

Re: Eclipse tsi vs. Viper
The turbo 'stangs block is living on borrowed time, and his fuel system is pegged, so he can't up the boost more than he already has.
After dynoing 523rwhp, I've re-pullied the blower for another 2 pounds of boost (14 total now, blower is just over max rated impeller rpm) and I'm running a wet 65 shot.
The stang dynoed 460rwhp on a mustang dyno. As far as he knows, I'm still going to be at 523rwhp when we race, who knows though he's probably got something up his sleeve too.
We'll probably come out to sir next year, definitally won't happen this year as my dance card is full
