DopdBrd VS. 95 RX7
DopdBrd VS. 95 RX7
MODS:
DopdBrd - (me) GMMG, CAI, !Air, TB Bypass, Underdrive pulleys, Electric Waterpump, 150 shot giggle gas
95 RX7 - intercooler, intake, CAI, cat back (supposedly running stock boost)
I caught up to a RX7 last night and got a little run with him. We both went from a 5 mph roll from a stoplight and we almost dead even the whole way. When I went into 2nd I got a little jump, He went into 3rd, got a little jump. At the top of 3rd the nitrous was cutting out on me (damn bottle was going empty) and he started to pull a little. The whole time neither one of us was more than a half of a car ahead of the other. We were on a main road so we shut it down right as I was goign into 4th. This weekend we are supposed to go out and race from a dig and go the whole 1/4. By then Ill have the Mickey Thompsons in so hopefully I can get him from a dig. Oh and also Ill have a fresh bottle so no worry about it cutting out.
Just to get an idea of how fast the RX7 actually was, he raced a friend of mine in both his 05 Goat and his 04 ZO6. The Goat lost to him by about half a car and the ZO6 was dead even with him the whole way. The guy in the RX7 said he was running stock boost but could it really be that fast in stock trim with only a few mods????

Re: DopdBrd VS. 95 RX7
so it has an intake AND a CAI???? woooowww.....
All bs aside, yes they are that fast...I don't think they weigh over 3000 lbs (2800 maybe?) and they respond well to modification. With all of that stuff done he is in need of computer tuning (RX7's are reeeally sensitive to anything that modifies airflow) and also the exhaust allows the turbo's to make a little bit more boost, so he may not have a boost controler but it's still got a little extra 'umph. I would have thought with a 150 shot you would have been way ahead but I guess not...what do you run in the 1/4?

Stock RX7's run high 13's @ 101 or so. He definitely had more mods than intake and exhaust if he beat the GTO and tied the Z06. I could see him hanging with you if your NOS wasn't spraying right, but not the other cars. To run with a Z06 my guess is that he may be running "stock" boost level, but with upgraded turbo's. No way a intake/exhaust RX7 will run even close to a Z06.

Yeah, he said they had both so I was just like um ok sure.
I have heard sooo many rumors around town about this car it is not even funny. I have heard that it does indeed have upgraded turbos, then I have heard that when the guy bought it it had a single turbo but he told the guy he bought it from to put the STOCK turbos back on. I dont know what the deal is with this car. Although I did talk to my friend and he said that he actually missed 2nd (there is something wrong with the tranny) in the Z06 and that the closer they got to 100 the Z was actually pulling on the RX7. So really I don't know. The guy in the RX7 was a really nice guy and pulled over and talked to me and my friend (GTO, ZO6) and had no problem popping the hood and telling me and my him what he had done to it. Either he is one smooth liar or he just really dont know what else he has done to it. IT DOES NOT have a turbo timer so he is either running stock boost or has a manual waste gate. When we do in fact go out and race this weekend, I will try to get my friend out and get all the races on tape. Don't get me wrong, this car was FAST!!
Re: DopdBrd VS. 95 RX7
I believe you mean a boost controller, not a turbo timer. Boost controler regulates wastegate opening to increase boost, turbo timer allows the engine to idle for a few minutes after the key is removed to allow the turbo's to cool down.
Re: DopdBrd VS. 95 RX7
Agree with everyone else. Test drove a stock rx7 twin and it was ok quick but not scarey would agree with the high 13s or so. Only things that really raise power in turbo cars is going higher boost, changing turbos and bigger intercooler help some and so do things like better cams ,intake manifold, etc.
So yes if he kept up to z06 even stock one with 405 hp and doubt the rx7 is much lighter than the z06 than would have to say he has aftermarket turbo or is running way more than stock boost.I guess only way to know is get a ride in his car and watch his boost guage.
