Should race them in your Saleen

I had two *******'s do the same thing to me, one in highschool and some random kid I don't even know.

This one kid had a late 80s Civic Hatch [not CRX] with a 1.6 SOHC VTEC motor from a 92+ Civic Si Hatch [127hp I think, not the 160hp DOHC VTEC from the 96+ Civic Si's]. He thought he had the fastest car at school. I had a 1990 Turbo Grand Prix back then [still do, my dad drives it now] with some minor mods [turned up the boost to 12psi on the stock T25 turbo, custom 2.5" cat-back with highflow cat and dynomax bullet mufflers, solid sluminum upper motor mounts to help plant the power to the ground, K&N on the turbo, Blitz bov, underdrive pully, I would guess around 230-240hp from the stock 205hp after mods]. He kept bragging on how he would smoke me, but everytime I would try to get next to him at a light, or ask him to race at the track, he wouldn't bite. He had these huge plans [like every ricer] to get a DOHC VTEC motor, turbocharge it, and beat me with it. Never happened. He sold the car and bought a 240SX hatch. He wanted to swap in a SR20DET motor, never happened.

Then one day at school [college], I was talking to my friend about my LT1, and some random ******* comes up to me and asks me if I want to race for pinks, wtf!? I don't know who this kid is and he wants to race me for pinks. So I humor him by asking what he has. He said he had a 1999 Dodge Dakota 5.9 R/T. He said his friend said that his truck would run low 14s stock. It was hard for me to keep from laughing. A Dakota 5.9 with the regular cab and shortbed would be lucky to break 15.0 stock. And I'm pretty sure he has a crewcab with the longbed. I went on the Dakota forums, and they all said that a 5.9 won't even run mid 14s stock, yet alone lows. His truck is 200lbs heavier, and has 35 less hp then my Firebird, yet he's going to beat me. No, I never tried to race him. Unless he shows up at the local track, I'll race him for some money.

Funny you should say that. Just this week I decided to make the car more streetable and start driving it on the street . Put a 5 speed back in it. quieter exhaust,And have it tuned for pump gas.
That'll be my winter project.
It'll be hilarious if I happen to be out in the saleen and run into one of those import guy's. Especially since the saleen looks 100% stock, I'll even be running the stock wheels (with M/T drag radials). If we race a quater mile I'll be crossing the finish line just after they pass half track.
Next summer is gonna be FUN!!!

speaking of saleens...i beat the crap out of one of the new s289's recently. i just launced at the light...i'm actually surprised i won. i know saleen's are bada$$. the older 347 saleens and the newer s351's are totally awesome....the 289 i guess doesnt live up the the name saleen.

i would say nice kill. but before i do, i need to know if it's a mid 90's model or if it's a late 80's model. i also need to know if it had aftermarket parts or not. a friend of mine has a 90 model with a upgraded turbo, intercooler, fuel upgrades and a beefy trans and he's running low 12's on street tires.

Car has painted stock rims hence "painted". It has seat covers, it has strobes in the blinker area. And a system, and a straught pipe for exhaust lol?

There are two different types of S281 Saleen's. A supercharged and non-supercharged version.

The S does'nt stand for superchargerd. It stands for Saleen. The naturaly asperated versions are S281 and the blown ones are called S281 supercharged.
The last year of the S351 was 2001.
You are right when you say they are overated when stock. The performance difference between a N/A saleen and a stock GT is about the same as the difference between a Z28 and a SS. Not much if any.Even my fox body. When mine was stock it ran mid to high 14's at 95mph. The same as every other stock 5.0. (its funny when I tell people I've picked up 50mph since I started racing it). Since they are considered collectors items in the mustang world, most people are afraid to do to many mods. I've had alot of people tell me I was crazy to do what i did to my saleen. But the car can still be back to stock and no one will even know it was a 9 sec. drag car. I also tell them. Go to a FFW event. There will be over 300 mustangs there drag racing. Mine would be the only REAL saleen racing and running times under 12 seconds. Having a stock looking saleen that runs 9's gets ALOT of attention at a mustang race. The guys at MM&FF liked it but said because its white it would'nt photo that well otherwise they would definatly fearure it in the mag.
It's a saleen that can more than hold its own on the street
Even detuned for pump gas and drag radials it should still be capable of mid-low 10's with a 5 speed.
