Ppl who cant launch their ****, or ppl who dont want to beat on their rear ends ... However, if I was running someone for money it definatly wouldnt be from a roll.

He's not launching that hard on radials, so he's on a tire...right? And if he's on a tire, it's a safe bet that he's not "stock".
BTW...running from a dig is the way it should be. This "from a roll" crap is for people who can't drive their cars.

I am going to disagree. Running from a roll shows whose car is ultimatly faster. Running from a dig shows who has the most traction and or/is "quicker".

Or who is the better driver. Especially if that person has a manual vice a stab-n-steer.

Your theory means the FASTER car will win.
A true STREET race should show which car is QUICKER in the 1/4 mile.

Owning a highway monster that'll wind out to 170+ mph is cool but when are you ever going drive that car that fast ? Unless your in Europe on that Autobahn .

I would much rather own a QUICK car that can get down the 1/4 mile quicker than that "big horsepower car".
Example: 12.0 @ 112 mph vs. 12.5 @ 120 mph

A real world race that I had last year.
I raced a big turbo Supra and smoked his @ss up to about 100 mph but he was catching up quick. I let off once I hit 100 mph. Yea, he would own my old school car on the highway but under 100 and he was all mine !

my brother in law has an 86. he told me the stock numbers were jsut as stated above but with programming, wastegate, and tires you were in the 12's. stock wasnt very fast but slightly modded is trouble without a head and cam package.

Racing from a roll is for pussies.
If you can't drive, race from a roll.
Cars don't drive themselves, if you need to remove yourself from the equation, find somebody who thinks racing from a roll is the right way to do it.

Trust me, I know how to drive better than you think. (second in leading points for autocross at ATM in CS class). If you want to go from a set up your car to haul *** from a stop so you can "pretend" you have the faster car go for it. I on the other will actually know whos is faster (not comparing our cars FYI). Besides if your racing on the highway and your reaching speeds of 100+ then the other car starts to pull on you so you shut down, did you really win that race? Or did you call the race off before you got beat?? There is a difference between a "faster" car and a "quicker" car, and i would much rather have a "faster" car. That "if you cant drive, race from a roll" crap is about as dumb as the ricers HP per liter arugment. "If your car falls on its face after second gear, race from a stop" <- pretty much same arugment and just as dumb.

Re: Anyone run a Grand National

Being able to autocross is a whole lot different than being able to get a great ET from a manually-shifted car.

I think you will find that most people consider "fast" in relation to drag racing. Certainly "quick" and "fast" are different in exact definition, but not necessarily in common usage.

For example, my 99 Cobra absolutely murder your car in a drag race. Probably up to around 130-140 mph. You'd then go around me. Yes, you have the "faster" car. But you'd never get a chance to even sort of show that. Your better top speed is virtually useless - at least from my perspective.

This, I think, is the essence of Sean's arguement. Personally, I agree with it.

I couldnt show it in a drag-race for "quickness" but in a race to see who is "fastest" i might be able to. . I dont know, I would rather have a car that ran 12's at 125, then 11's at 115, but to each and his own. To me, an awsome mph takes alot more performance to achieve rather then traction. When i think of a fast car, the first thing that comes to mind for me is how fast is it, not how much traction and usable power is put to the ground. Anyone who does bracket racing will probably disagree with me though, and i respect that. I am just sharing my opinion.

I have no problem with personal opinions - and mine is no better than yours (or vice versa).

Personally, I would much prefer to run 11's @ 115 than 12's at 125 (of course, that is personal preference, as you said). It takes a complete package to run a good ET - HP, chassis, traction, skill. It takes little more than just a lot of HP to run a good MPH. Some of the runs I'm most proud of are the ones that have a good "ET vs MPH" package. 12.01 @ 108 in my old 88 Coupe when it was N/A....11.43 @ 117 in my 99 Cobra on DRs.

As you said - to each their own.

"Anyone run a Grand National"???

Well, unless you've been hiding under a rock for the past almost-20 years how could you NOT have run one?

Damn things are everywhere like flies at a bbq. I like em though, as long as they're behind me.

Anybody racing on a highway at speeds well in excess of 100mph is an idiot. Period.
That's even more dangerous than running from a dig on a marked section of road in the middle of the night on a desolate stretch of asphalt.
There is a difference between a "faster" car and a "quicker" car, and i would much rather have a "faster" car.
See above.

So what do you call it? You can't get your car out of the hole, you can't keep it from blowing off the tires...so you race from a roll. Like a ricer. What's next, running on twisty mountain roads to prove one's driving prowess? I've never heard the "if your car falls on its face after second gear, race from a stop" line. In most cases, if a car makes enough power to run well through the first two gears, it's going to do just fine after that.
Go out to any heavy street racing spots (Philly, Newark's "the hole", NYC, etc.) and try to get a run from a roll.

Re: Anyone run a Grand National

lol I actually drive daily my bone stock '91 5.0. 150,000 miles, and completely stock, down to the 2.73's and air intake silencer! How many 19 year olds keep their 5 liter Mustangs stock?!
