Not all ricers sound that way.... but most do.
I ran up against a riced out 3000gt with a billion stickers on it that sounded like it had a 454 in it... it was badass.
Hell, they come from the factory with those obnoxious exhaust systems these days.
I personally hate that sound, but those guys love it... god knows why. Personal preference I guess.

On the 1.5L Turbo F-1 Cars...
http://www.iol.ie/~donohoer/0Renault_RE20_Turbo.htm
I concede on the 'Baiting'. When looked at it from the angle that they didn't actually run, you are right.
BTW, the worst exhaust in a vehicle I ever had was a '79 Suburban 4x4 (TankII was the license plate!) with a few rust holes in the headers. Whenever I wound that Targetmaster 350 past 3500 RPM in gear then backed off, it would backfire out the holes. It sounded like gunshots ( a friend has it on tape!) and I used it a few times to set off car alarms.
Next worst was 2.3L '82 Mustang with the '79 Turbo 'stang exhaust. Loud, loud, loud! It got better once I dropped the Turbo engine in. Oh, and it ran 17.0@80 MPH with the N/A 2.3L.
Since the auto 5.0's were running 16.2's at Lebanon Valley that weekend, I felt pretty good about my 4-banger!

yeah i cant stand the sound of those little fart cans, but they do have their own appeal.
I just raced 7 Supras and I have to say, at 110 MPH and climbing and hearing the turbos whining struggling to pass me, it sounds quite intimidating.
By the way, they were all pushing 600-700 HP stock bottom end.
this is why I am saving for twin turbos on my Z
If everyone could afford a camaro Z28 or SS or whatever, none would have them, because nobody would care anymore, because it would no longer be exclusive.
These guys need a daily driver, but want a race car. So they meet in the middle because the world revolves around money.
They want their cars to be a little exclusive too......
I dont see what the big fuss is all about.
Any engine, in any car, can beat anybody, provided with the money to accomplish it.
So turn off your torches and but out the extinguishers

...and lasted about three miles before it puked its innards out!!

I have also noticed corvette owners to be arrogant. Some are cool, but most are arrogant and they think they car is the most expensive thing on the road.

Yes, Steve they could buy it. But could they afford the insurance on it, especially if they are 16-20? Insurance is out the roof on our cars, unlike those slow Hondas. This might have been one of the downfalls with our cars, young guys want them, but can't pay a $1000 insurance deductible.
yeah these things are expensive on insurance.
My last car war a 2003 Civic with a 5 speed, and I had all these plans to turbo it and whatnot, but I changed my mind and got a camaro.
I was very dissappointed in the power it had and just couldnt see dumping money into something like that.
I would LOVE to have it back if I could have both the camaro and the civic, that way I could just park the camaro during the week.
But....i only make $6.25 and hour so I had to choose, and I just missed the V8 sound.
My first car was an 84 Z28, I guess thats why.

wow what a post... i have a 4" fart tip on the galant, and it sounds like a dsm, nothing special... vet owners laugh, and laugh and, laugh at my car... the conversations usually start like this... hey i've got 30 bux on me how much you got on you? they usually have a few 100... then i say well you can obviously can afford to lose a few 100, so i'll bet my 30 bux on my grocery getter vs your (i fill in the hp and engine type) vet and your 100's of dollars, what do ya' say??? this is usually followed by a lot more laughing (if there is more than 1 vet owner it gets real, real bad)... the next thing they usually want to know is what is under the hood... when they ask what's under the hood you've got them, and they won't race... never had a stock vet owner take me up on the race... they tend to talk a lot of smack until you want to tap that wallet they got... and yes i do tell them what i have under the hood, and even show them if they like...
darn near any car can be fast or made to go fast... i went away from v8's (for now), but if i want to get into a real fast car i hit up my brother with his 67 chevelle (8 second turd hehehehe)... i love the sound of a v8, mopar, chevy, ford, even buick and olds sound great by comparison to my galant, but few stock ones will run with my little grocery getter...
and for the record i don't care for the way honda's sound with intake and exhaust work done (just my likes and dislikes though)... and they don't sound like an indy car (sport bikes come real close though)...

Different strokes but about the vette owners....my best experience was sitting in the staging lanes and having a couple vette owners mumbling and pointing at my car.....there was an LS1 vette who had his dial-in on the car.....I get out of the car...put my dial-in up (same as the vette) and watch them go from smug to depressed followed by "what you got in that thing nawwwsss?" I laughed poped the hood and said an OEM 4cyl motor with a home made intake and crappy header.....the LS1 vette they had in their little group was their fastest guy (kinda pathetic) so he ended up making a slower vette race me (probably pre LT1 cause it was a dog) and I went faster than my dial (practice runs) classic....
I hate **** talkers.....but the "better than thou" crews are the worst

Sounds like the time an older midlife crisis guy with his woman here in town thought his "Collectors Edition" LT4 Vette was "SOOO much faster" than my 'bird. It was the "better than thou" attitude that made me fire up the bottle in the trunk.
Nothing like dropping a 20 car length win on a smart ***!
Priceless! Wish I had had a video camera with me, I would have given that jackass a copy! Guy had no clue.
A good example of a good thread gone bad.
Everyone has their own personal engine sound likes and dislikes- 2stroke, 4stroke, 4cyl, 6cyl, 8cyl, 10cyl, 12cyl, w12cyl, w16, diesel, whatever...
Why can't everyone have the attitude "you like yours I'll like mine".
People are starting to sound like a bunch of losers talking about how 4 bangers, or whatever motor they dislike the sound of, "sounds" slow...
As if sound has anything to do with performance
Jon
