98z vs. 03 cobra

Ok hello all. I was gonna sell the z but things change. Ok I was cruising around arlington with my buddy in his mustang behind me. I call him up and ask him if any of his mustang buddys wanna race a ls1 z. so he says yes he knows a guy with a stock 03 that will probably race so he calls him and sets it up for us to meet on green oaks and run. 1st run he got me off the line and held half a car on me all the way to 60. 2nd run i got the jump on him and he was at my door. 3rd run we took it to the highway and i had him uptop till we shut down at 110. I luv these cars

Good runs! So it looks like an LS1 with full exhaust and lid is about equal to a stock '03 Cobra. The '03 Cobras are nice but the LS1 is way better in the bang for the buck dept. You can get a nice '98 LS1 for $10,000ish and a nice '03 Cobra for $25,000ish .

good kill. The cobra costs more but IMO-its a much nicer car in every aspect.Heck,a GT feels like its built much better then the F-Bodies,just wish it had more potential.

True, but $15,000 more is a sh!tload for the average working man. Also, those T-tops are cool on the F-body.

Yes I think the GT is more solidly built. It has decent potential as long as you throw a blower, turbo or nitrous at it.

Ford should have did it "GM style" (ie too lazy to make cars REALLY different) and put the Mach 1 motor in the GT and rate it at 290HP or something and rate the Mach 1 at 305hp put different shocks on them and say its an upgrade

Well that makes me a little more confident in racing an 03 Cobra. I raced one in my 97 T/A with full exhaust and got my *** handed to me. It was wet, but regardless. We both we all over.

As far as GM VS Ford in build quality, each one has their highs and lows. Look at the Mustangs rear end, but lack of power (Cobra not included) Then look at an LS1 with power, but lack of a strong rear end. Who decided to put this garbage rear end in these things anyway? He needs to be shot.

I like that Mach 1 comment, hinting at the SLP/WS6 options...that was actually kinda funny.

it would go down to who can get out of the hole quicker, then it would be up to him to hit his shifts right (if he got a better launch), if you put a couple of cars on him on the launch it wont even be worth racing cuz he aint gonna pull you in.

You guys... I tell ya

Why compare a near 7 year old car in BANG for BUCK to a new car?

At least put the Cobra Against a 02 SS or WS6 for a comparable price.

Anyways if we did that comparison it would go a little like this:

Cobra would be a tad faster stock.

Cobra owner buys a new pulley for 150 bucks

Cobra spanks SS/WS6 hard

Anyone could go buy a old car, throw 5 G's into it, and say its a great Value.

I love my Vette but dollar for dollar the Cobra is way more Value as it would take less then 500 bucks to make over 500HP.

Everyone uses that $500 line. The truth is its more like 1500 bucks to get close to 500rwhp. It will take a pulley, tuning, headers/exhaust, CAI atleast. Those mods are more than 1000 bucks. Just headers are more than 500 bucks.

Just trying to let the misinformed fbody owners out there know that 500 bucks is on the low side. I can see 430-440rwhp for 500, but will take mor ethan a pulley and CAI to get 500rwhp. I met a guy who dynoed 485rwhp with full exhaust, pulley, injectors, tuning, CAI.

ONLY because the '03 Cobra came out in '03 and the LS1 came out in '98. That's 5 years, btw.

I see its a pi$$ing contest again. Who cares anyway? Ford had to put a blower on the Mustang to make it put down serious numbers to the back tires. Atleast GM can do it N/A

yeah but GM has to use big engines. a 350 vs. a 4.6 is like a 440 vs a 350. Who cares if they "have to use a supercharger"?why would you want it n/a? Horsepower is horsepower

Don't start this again, we have already shown that Ford has several modular engines that could have beaten the LS-1 N/A. They simply did it because that is what Mustang enthusiasts wanted.
