Stock, you're correct. Like any 100 mph car, they're just "ok" in terms of performance by today's measurements; plenty of family sedans can top 100 traps. You can see by my sig that when it was stock my Legacy GT was more than a match for a stock VR4. Now it'd be downright brutal as I expect 105+ mph traps.

I never found the weight to be a factor. A MBC and downpipe ($450 max) drops a full second off the stock timeslip and keeps the stock appearance. I added injectors and a HKS VPC (converts the car from mass air to speed density) and took off another half second in the quarter. The rest was stock, at an as-raced weight of over 4000 lbs (thanks to the 300 I add...). Videos & timeslip in sig link. Of course I realize how much faster it would've been had they weighed 3000 lbs!

Despite the stereotype, I've found it to be the most enjoyable of the 90s turbo imports. Supras go stupid fast but cost big cash and have finicky traction. 300ZXs can go fast too but everything has the $tillen tax and anything to do to the engine is a bitch to reach. That leaves you with the redheaded stepchild 3000GT/Stealth, which now offers some pretty cheap upgrade paths, good build and materials quality, and they can be bought at a cheap price since everybody's stuck on the "they're too heavy" idea without having driven one. It's a comfortable cruiser that happens to have a ton of grip and can be made to have its share of power too.

snakeskinner28: Well Im sure you have all the answers already since you came in her as king ***t on turd mountain. But many people believe it or not race on the street. Very few grudge matches take place at the track. If you have not seen people race to very high speeds then you sir have been living under a rock. I was trying to tell him to set a specific goal and not to have it go too long as that would play into the Cobras strength.

You should be able to beat both cars because the auto takes alot of the driver error out(not all). Good luck.

King **** on turd mountain? What are you talking about. Of course people race on the street you douch, but not many races go beyond 100 on the street NORMALLY. I do crawl out from under my rock enough however to see races go to "very high speeds", but that Camaro will walk the Cobra at all speeds, even "very high speeds" until the cars top out, then the Cobra will EVENTUALLY catch it since the Camaro is an auto and will run out of gear at high speeds. And to the retard that suggested that the Cobra was a high 14 sec car, get your head examined too. I guess my answers are better then most since im not suggesting that the weight differance is 1000lbs between a Cobra and a Camaro, and I am not suggesting that a Cobra is a high 14 sec car. The only strength that Cobra has is that it will eventually pull on top speeds. So as the King of Turd Mountain I am asking you my queen where my answers are wrong.

We finally raced on Friday. Ive been experimenting all week with trying to launch my car, w/o spinning. We did 2 races. One from roll, and one from a stop. I launched pretty good, and he did as well, both of us spun very little, with him spinning alittle bit more. The whole race I was out front, pulling away pretty good.I shut it down at round 110, and had him by atleast 4-5cars. Next race was from a 40 mph roll. Both of us hit it, and I spun pretty bad, so he had me, up to around 70 or so. I reeled him in pretty damn quick. Shut it down once I was a couple of cars on him. All in all, its what I was expecting, he didnt have much to say, but didnt hammer me with a ton of excuses either. Just said good runs, and left Now Im ready to run this 3000gt. I heard today though he has intake, tune, and exhaust(catback).
His parents are rich, and they bought him that when he was bitchin about his car not feeling fun anymore. Wish my parents were like that. Id be in the low 6s, lookin for more

Yea and im taking them...they dont seem to work to quell my intolerance of stupid people, which it seems like theres an abundance of around here. Oh, allow me to define a stupid person. One who thinks that there is a 1000lbs weight differance between a Mustang Cobra conv. and a Camaro, or one that thinks that a 98 Mustang Cobra will run in the high 14s in the 1/4. The list can go on as well, but my anger pills are making me tired.

Where would you race for 1/2 a mile at an airport? Maybe at the 1/2 mile tracks they got these days. You will win any race that does not involve going to top speed, and that Cobra will not catch up anywhere near enough to make it a race, you should have him by about 3-4 cars.

You're still ok -- he's not done any meaningful mods yet. The intake can be useful; just a quick K&N mounting kit is all that's needed. The exhaust was an absolute waste of money. The stock cat-back (3 inches) is more capable than the stock turbos. It's fine until you pass 115 mph traps which he certainly isn't going to see without major upgrades. All he's done is make it a lot louder, add bling, and remove the factory loud/quiet switch which I always thought was neat.

There isn't any method to "tune" those cars; you can try some add-on boxes to roughly reshape the fuel curve but it isn't going to make a real difference until he adds more mods. He isn't any faster now than he was totally stock. He won't go anywhere until he replaces the downpipe (between the turbos and cat-back section) and adds boost -- and that's assuming the car has been maintained properly over the past 13 years. It's no spring chicken anymore!

Im not sure how long the race went. the first one was pretty long, maybe little over a 1/4 mile. It seemed like the faster we went, the further I pulled. But I can see how him being a 5 spd, lower gear ratio, higher revving engine, him having higher stop speed, but I dont think, unless we were racing like a 10 mile strip that would matter. My dad told me he paid $22,000 for that car less than a year ago. It only had 6000 miles, but still. Why buy that, when you can get an 03 cobra for around the same price

The 3000gt is in prestine condition. It looks and drives great. I havent heard it since the exhaust, etc. But im sure it sounds good. I garauntee that if I beat him w/ his current mods, within a week he will have about $1000 more dollars in it, givin he doesnt know crap about cars as far as mods go, but his friend tells him everything he should get, so if I beat him, It will be awhile before I beat him again.

You spun the tires at a 40 mph roll with the auto?

That aint that shocking, with his mods, skinny tires, and 3:73s with an auto, spinning tires at 40 isnt that farfetched.
