95z28>92SHO, but questions?

we went at about 60mph and up to a 100-05mph i pulled approxametly 3.5-4 cars.

i know that isn't that bad, but at the same time i do

i know the lt1's especially suck on the top end, and the 3rd gear + top end of a SHO is quite good.

mods: 95 z28- bult-4l60e with 2500stall and cai. also has 2.73's.

92 ford SHO- new ignition w/ new(but used)tranny w/ upgraded clutch. also has one hell of an exhaust leak. this is all i know about the car.

should i have pulled more or is this correct. i am really curious since i just got my car back. also another thing to compare it to is i raced a 87-93ish mustang 5.0 w/cobra badges(i don't think it was a cobra) and i pulled 4 cars as well from 60-100.

i am just curious weither my car didn't perform or did my car hold up to the end of the deal since all my torque and power is low-mid range and the SHO's is mid-high range?

if u want to look at the stats of a SHO here: http://www.autotrader.com/research/m...&ac_afflt=none

there car weighs less than mine . look where the torque is in the rpm's along w/ the horsepower. mad good on top end. i wished i would have raced it from a stop.

That's about what I would expect from a mostly stock SHO (like mine)
The stock Catalytic converters artificially restrict the exhaust so power drops off precititously starting at around 5800 RPM. This is so that it was about a dead-even match against the same-year Mustang GT, Ford's flagship performer at the time. Kind of like why GM took so long to come out with the LS-6 for the C5 at 405 BHP. They didn't want to get the ZL-1 owners upset that their 6 year old cars were beatable BHP wise by a pushrod 5.7L.

I do have a Performance Plus Y-Pipe now and it really helps the engine run to redline strongly. I estimate that at 5800 RPM I get maybe 3 BHP more, but at 7200 RPM I've picked up about 15-20 more than stock Note that I am WAY above the stock peak BHP RPM point, so this is NOT a peak BHP number increase!

i know my top-end isn't terrible, but compared to my low-mid range pull the top-end ain't $hit.

the problem is that my stall doesn't help me from a roll. it actually hurts me by like 1-2mph. i know if i went from a stop or a small roll like 20mph for traction, i would have embarassed him even more.

i was just a bit upset that i didn't pull more. and for doing some research on sho's, i find u guys beat or are even with 5.0(gt's). the fact that gets me is u guys run 15.0 in the 1/4, but i guess ur low-mid range pull is not good. especially after looking where ur power is.

I own a 92 SHO and I would say that you did pretty well against it. I've never raced an LT1 from a roll, so I'm not sure if you did better or worse than you should of. The SHO has horrible bottom end. Not just when it comes to #'s but it's a front wheel drive car that's very hard to launch, which would be one reason for the low 15 1/4 time. It's also pretty heavy.

It does have some really nice top end though, which is where most of it's power is. So if you were to race one, whether you'd kill it or not, from roll would be where the SHO would want to go from.

thanks, i know there heavy but mine is weighs more. i thought i did pretty good considering my stall probably took 3mph more off of my top-end. just felt mad that i didn't pull that much. but i guess when ur facing a car with their power of 220hp and 200ft/lbs of torque @4000-6000 rpm and mine is low-mid end would explain why i didn't pull so much.
