95 Z28 Vs. Evo

Sup guys, This is my first post here and I thought I'd give it a shot.

Last night I was going home from getting some pizza. I was turning the corner at a light when all of a sudden a red Evo is right behind me. As he is pulling up next to me I was thinking "great another punk kid in an import". Boy was I wrong. He gave it some gas and then I could hear the turbo. This was no stock car. I decided to give it a go, and since we were just around the corner and I was still in first gear I let her rip. Of corse he got traction and I was sliding all over the road. Hit second and slid around again. This whole time he never pulls ahead of me. When I hooked up in second gear I pulled him about a half a car and continued to shift into third and just into fourth and let off. He ended up about a car and a half behind me. This is the closest race I have ever had and it was an 2.0L import car! I was pretty impressed by the way. We hit it again from about 40 with the same results.

After that we pulled over into a parking lot to talk for a while. He was suprised by my car( it looks bone stock except for the borla). I told him I was impressed by the little 2 liter and got a little info on it. It had a Garrett t-18 turbo upgrade and all the little thinks you can do to an Evo. He said it dynoed 300 horse to all four wheels and ran a 12.5 at 112 MPH. Apperently I was the only car that beat him all weekend. Not too bad for an old 95 Lt-1.

I really have no idea. The kid was young so I took all that with a grain of salt. I have no interest in these import cars no matter how fast they are. Therefore I don't know anything about them.

Educate me on these things. I didn't think my car was a mid 12 second car but I could be wrong as I have never had it to the track.

That's on Vishnu's dyno... a lot of people don't care for Vishnu, and their dyno is always lower than other places. I think they use some kind of dyno that no one else uses.

Most stock EVO's will do well over 200 to the wheels on other dynos.

I can honestly say those things don't mess around even if it is a little 2.0 liter. Keep your eye out for em.

Yeah there is a reason they were popular for racing, in japan.

Bullcrap they are an extremely respected tuner. The point is that an evo with 300hp to the wheels will do much better then 12.5

The E.T. Depends on the driver also. This was a 16 or 17 year old kid by the way.

Re: 95 Z28 Vs. Evo

good kill on the strong import car !!

Evos definately need to be respected since they have the potential to run really fast. I see you didn't underestimate this guy and his car. That is exactly my rules when racing !!! Good job.
There are guys who are modding the hell out of these EVOs; EX. knifing the crank, porting / polishing head, reworking the exhaust, upgraded turbos, huge intercoolers, PCM tuning and the list goes on and on. I can see these cars putting over 400 to the ground easily with a little "no how". And if they lighten their cars, holy crap. LOL

Only if you launch it hard. These cars don't have strong transfer cases. Plus, if he's on the stock clutch, it wouldn't last one hard launch.

Stock Evos dyno around 215-225 to all four wheels on your standard DynoJet. Vishnu uses a DynoDynamics which is an inertia dyno and they read significantly lower than a standard DynoJet or Dynapack.

Most 300 WHP Evos run somewhere in the mid to low 12s at anywhere between 109-112 MPH. My Evo made 326 WHP but I never got around to running it.
