69 z28 vs Cammed LT1 ?
69 z28 vs Cammed LT1 ?
I know, i know. I dont really want to post another who would win thread, but i just want to hear some encouragement. These new people moved in across the street, and he has a 69 z28. 100% stock. So anyways, my dad and i got talking and my dad says there is no way in hell i could ever beat it.
He says that my car wont even hold a candle to this. Now i usually trust my dads opinoins because hes pretty smart when it comes to cars. But i think it would be a pretty good race, and i might even have the upper hand. Mods are in the sig. I dont know what to believe, i know they are quick.

Re: 69 z28 vs Cammed LT1 ?
I would put money on you because the '69 is an old engine that has lost hp from its age and also your car is modded and even if the '69 was putting up the same hp numbers as yours the '69 weighs a lot more than your car. You should still race him and if yours is a stick and his is an auto you would beat him.
Re: 69 z28 vs Cammed LT1 ?
Unless he is lying to you about what its got you'll straight up murder the 69 Z/28. Although I do love those cars, my uncle has one right across the street from us and he talked **** when I got my car too. After my bolt on's and seeing/hearing my car cruise up and down the road he is singing a different tune.
Here are some specs on 1969 Production models:
(Z-28) 302/290bhp: 0-60 in 7.4 sec, 1/4 mile in 15.12 sec @ 94.8mph.
(SS396) 396/375bhp: 0-60 in 6.8 sec, 1/4 mile in 14.7 sec @ 98.7mph.
(COPO 9561) 427/425bhp: 0-60 in 5.4 sec, 1/4 mile in 13.5 sec @ 102mph.
(COPO 9560) 427/430bhp: 0-60 in 5.3 sec, 1/4 mile in 13.16 sec @ 110 mph.

The site does underrate 1/4 mile's in the 4th Gens though.
I hate to say it, but its going to take more than its stock engine for the 69 to beat you. Even though those old V8's make gobs of TQ for their time. Gorgeous cars though, simply beautiful. I am going to have to say that the guy either doesnt have a stock internals or doesnt know anything about 4th Gen's.

the 302 was built to run in the trans am series which was essentialy at high rpm, although it was quick for its time your car should handely it soundly. While on the subject, i think a evil engine would be a 302 LT1, get the crank and rods out of the 4.3 v8 and mod them to fit our block. Get a custom grind cam with a real choppy idle, and That thing would scream

Just what i wanted to hear. My dad had a 69 back in the day, and he tells stories of running high 12s with gears ( 4.88's ) and slicks. I was confident that i could atleast run with it.
1quickZ, it would probably be easier to just build up a 302 bottom end, ( 327 block with 283 crank ) and put some lt1 heads etc on it. I dont know why you would want to go threw this trouble, when you could build a 396 easier and have more power/tq. 302 lack in the torque department. but are top end screamers.

Ya you should take him if he is indeed stock; though whoever said the 4th gen is lighter is way wrong. My '68 only weighed in at 3280, full interior and everything. But they definitely aren't as fast as the newer cars, especially modded ones.
Re: 69 z28 vs Cammed LT1 ?
but can a 396 scream to 7500 rpm? Im not actually going to do it, I just thought that would be a nice car can you imagine say a 1997 Z with a LT1 302 conversion painted orange with black z stripes, talk about heritage edition
Re: 69 z28 vs Cammed LT1 ?
you have to allways watch out for multiple carburetoration (factory, sort of) and it could have factory (again sort of) headers, ignition upgrades, chambered exaust, 4 wheel discs on the 12 bolt with any assortment of ratios i think up to 4.56 etc. im sure with the cross ram intake and holleys and any decent tire with 4.11s it a drivers race
