650 BMW -v- the Old Z...
650 BMW -v- the Old Z...
Headin' to grab some take-out and I saw a 650 BMW across the intersection turning our way; I get the light and throw a quick blast just to clear the first couple of cars... and to just throw the hammer... when I get up to the next light, I see the Beemer coming up and it pulls into the turn lane next to us...
I've heard that these cars were major trouble, but I figured that the driver would be the usual 60 something, with little interest...
But what do I find sitting in the ****-pit? A 20 something; and it's clear that he saw us strike it up and he's got that look... You know the one, where he's about to take the F-body down... in a show of European automobile superiority...
At this point I'm REALLY wishin' that I had saved some juice... but the bottle's drained and what ever is comin' is going to have to be handled on the NA...
So the light turns to the green arrow and Dude pops right out... he's clearly goin'... but he goes WAY deep and its right there that I knew I had him.
I cut it close to the inside which provides for me to be geared up in my kill zone, rev wise... on the other side. He actually throttles up first and manages to pull along side before I can bleed off the lateral sufficiently to nail it without a lot of 'scare the crap out of the straights' OKA the: Find a cop, drift-manuever... anywho, as I said, once on the other side, I was in perfect shape to bust it open on 'im and to everyone's surprise, we put two cars on in no time... at which point we had closed on the traffic and it was over.
LOL... when that kid came by me, he was looking dead at us with his eyes big as saucers... but he had a big old smile on his face...
He motioned to say he wanted some more, but it was 5:30, traffic was B2B and there was just no future in it... Naturally, he proved me right by making a general *** out of himself trying to blast through the next four or five cars... so any lingering doubts that we should pursue it, faded back into the ether right there.
ROFLMNAO.. I tell ya, taking down the 6 figure European rides is what it's ALL about kids... they flat can't BELIEVE IT; but they also can't deny it; and to be honest... that's my favorite part.

If it was a BMW 650i, that's a whopping 360hp -- not even as much as a Hyundai Genesis.
It's the 500hp v10-powered M6 that's the fun car and even then it's mostly top-end power.
FWIW, BMW has nothing on the twin turbo v12 found in the Mercedes 65-series cars. There's nothing like having 740ft/lbs of torque, not to mention the accompanying 605hp.

I've tangled with the M6... it's a dog fight; but we edged him out. KILLED the M3... by a bus and change.
Don't get me wrong, the Beemer's a very nice ride and I've been a Mercedes fan since my old '76 280C days... another build from WAY back. Great cars...
The point here is what? It's power from the dig and who gets to 60 first... Right?
My brother drives a CL65 AMG and I'm hoping my car's new round of mods at least keeps it close through the quarter.
As the owner of almost all AWD cars since 1993, I can say most people claim the advantage from a dig is unfair. Unless they're on something like ET Streets like your car, they always complain about traction. On the other hand, there's no way on earth I'll ever see a 1.5anything 60 ft, and if I got close I'd see tranny parts all over the staging area.
I'm going to do a turboed LT1 project later on but it won't be anything conventional. I want to do it in a mid 90's Caddy and badge it Fleetwood. The goal is a mostly stock appearance, Impala suspension parts, tubbed for real rubber, super comfortable inside, and in the 1000 hp neighborhood. It may be crazy but it'll be unique!
