3000GT vs. 99 GT vs. Me

Well i was cruzin down the road with one of buddies in my car. Another boring thrusday night was rolling by in NW Indiana and we were just out to blow some time. I was kind of just coasting down a local highway which runs past our major shopping portion of town when i pulled up to a green mustang GT appeared to be 99 ish.

At the light i could tell the guy wanted race. He keept inchin his car fowards and once the light went green it was about half throttle. He reved his car and then i did mine. Finaly it sound like he hit the peddle so i hit mine, my car down shiffted from 3rd to 2nd then to 1st and just launched from a 20/30 roll and just left him back... easy fun as expected.

Then as i was shuttin down a 3000 gt goes flyin past me, and as he does i can hear his turbo winning. So i stomp it, catch up the cars he put on me during the flyby around 90, and we both slow to 45. By this time the mustang is behind me, 3000gt next to me, and open straight road ahead of us.

When we were rollin at 45 i heard the 3000GT hit it and and his turbo just scream. It was kind of funny because it ever so slowly started to gain, which i let him about half a car then floored it and just roared past him.

Was a fun night, later on i meet the mustang at a gas station and i guess the passanger owns a 97 Z and was just looking at his friends new car.. his excuse was he used to own a camaro, but then had to sell it... poor guy.

Best thing about it all was, didn't even have to give my baby her bottle

Hope you enjoyed the story.

You totally roasted two cars that should give you decent runs? Sounds like poor drivers to me.

Re: 3000GT vs. 99 GT vs. Me

Well a stock 99 GT should be good for about a 14.1 run. He also had a passanger like I, so that doesn't make a diffrence. I'm pretty sure the thing was an auto. The 3000GT sounded like it was a stick. I don't know too much about 3000GT's but i'm saying around a stock 1/4 mile of 13.6 at the fastest. Thats what i'm trapping w/o spray and he was racing me in what i like to call my LT1's "play ground" right around 30mph's. Also it didn't really sound like he knew what the hell he was doing... i don't even think he was downshifting.. but i defintly heard the turbo. I'm baseing times off of this site.. if someone wants to chimne in and let me know how reliable it is that'd be cool... http://www.albeedigital.com/supercou...0-60times.html

Stock a 3000GT is a 100 mph car. Without a launch it's barely average in today's auto market.

Nah, that's its traps in the 1/4. The magazines actually show it doing 155-160 top speed.

100 mph traps means a stock one would have trouble passing a new Nissan Altima or Mustang GT. 10 years ago, 100 mph was quick. Now it's just barely quicker than average. Its saving grace is that $300 in mods will pick up 5 mph.

Well the 3000GT VR-4 is the only turbo 3000GT. It also happens to be AWD so if you raced him from a roll that would explain why you pulled so hard. Since it weighs near 2 tons, is AWD running from a roll is definitely not its strong spot.
